      Point-blank! The mortally wounded battleship HMS Rodney strikes back at one of her attackers in desperation, landing a solid hit on RM Giussano's solid sub-deck. The unusual muzzle blast is caused by water flooding into the battleship getting inside the guns, and entrained in the air blast when it fires.       This is a perfect action shot! I bet the smaller ship went down soon after!

      @Brett V Actually it was the other way around. The unusual muzzle blast from the battleship's cannons was due to uncontrolled flooding, and it sank several minutes thereafter. The cruiser, on the other hand, got shot directly on the edge of the deck, a legal impenetrable area. The shots failed to penetrate its plywood structure, and bounced off with no harmful effects.
