      Bob Pottle's I-400 Sub. The model saw 1 combat sortie. Partially succesful the large conning tower and the BB Cannon caused the model to lean to one side on the surface.

      I built this from a now OOP Battlers hull and molded more accurate versions of the conning tower and hangar. I was unable to resolve the stability problems inherent in real and model subs at near neutral buoyancy. The model did some demo static dives and resurfaces for NABS members using CO2 and was able to fire a specially designed light-weight BB cannon on resurfacing. The BB cannon was a 1.5 unit spurt gun housed in the hangar and firing aft.

      After selling the model to Brian M. of the OAF a group of NABS members started a new I-400 hull project with a considerably deeper hull to allow ballast to be placed much lower and improve stability. I finished the hull project in 2010 and have sold several sets of upper and lower hull, hangar and conning tower.

      @Bob Pottle

      lol, the "group of NABS members" working on a single craft is the best indicator of the engineering challenge in these models I have seen so far. what kind of material was used for the conning tower? Does anyone have a sub that they would put up on "stem to stern"?

      @Anvil_x

      The conning tower and hangar were separate fiberglass castings that were glassed together. I sold the set of hull and superstructure molds to Strike Models around 2014, kept one for myself but sold it last month.
