    Length: (361 ft)
    Beam: (29 ft 6 in)
    Draught: (23.8 ft)
Could someone help me convert these dimensions to 1:144 scale? I tried it myself but I seem to be having some trouble...

    ok thanks,
the trouble I was having with it is that these dimensions are for the surcouf, and I didn't think that it would be 30 in long in 1/144 scale...thanks for the help

Here's an easy formula to convert into any scale:
"Divide the scale you've got by the scale you want."
    Example:
You have the dimension 361feet into 1:144 scale. You probably want the final result in inches, not feet, so 1st you need to convert into a common unit:
    Feet * 12 = inches, so in this instance 361 * 12 = 4332". That's the number of inches in 1:1 scale (the scale you've got).
4332 (the dimension, converted into appropriate units, in the scale you've got) / 144 (the scale you want) = 30.08".
The same formula works just as well if you need to convert between other scales. This is sometimes necessary when you have a set of plans in some other scale. I've had times where the only decent plans available for a ship were in 1:192, for example. Some of the 1:144 warship plans are, to be blunt, utter crap. To convert 1:192 to 1:144, divide the scale you've got (192) by the scale you want (144); 192 / 144 = 1.333...; a scaling factor that can be applied to any dimension, to get the appropriate measure.

And doing the maths the other way, you have a shortcut (since 144=12x12, and there are 12 inches in a foot)
To get the scale sice in feet, divide by 144 - so 361/144=2.506944ft.
But, you probably want inches, so you would multiply 2.506944x12 (inches per foot) to get 30.833
So you are taking length / 144 * 12, which is the same as lengty *12 / 144, which, of course is the same as length / 12.
Simply put, divide the measurement in feet by 12 and you will get the 1/144 scale measurement in inches.
Or, going the other way, a scale measurement in 1/144 is multiplied by 12 to bet 1:1, So 2" in 1/144 is 24ft in 1:1.
