We are putting together our event schedule for the 2010 season.
We are currently trying to set the dates for our annual Denmark Straits event.
It looks like it will be on Memorial Day weekend, or possible the weekend before Memorial Day.
It will be held in the Dayton, Ohio area again this year. Probably at the Xenia batle site again.
We have the dates, and location set for the conference (our Nats event).
The dates are July 29 - Aug 1.
It will be held in the Dayton area. Probably at the Xenia battle site.
For the time being, we are concentrating on the first half of the season.
We expect to have battles in Ravenna, Ohio, and possibly also Red Lion, Pa.
Josh is still looking for a battle site in the Cinci area, and we are hoping to locate a battle site in Ky.

As far as the events go in the Dayton area..
I would like to invite the big-gun groups to a few of our events
to battle in between our normal sorties. At least early in the year.
But I would also like to start inviting the Battlestations group to
our events as the year progresses, as I can anticipate that group
getting some ships on the water this year. Probably later, than
    sooner.
    On the other hand..
I also hope to try a couple campaign battles this year. We already have some ships that are convoy capable.
    In addition..
We need to get at least a couple pre-dreadnaughts, and aircraft
carriers on the water in order to see how the new rules under R+D
    work out.

The house will be open to anyone that is interested in staying
    here for the conference.
So please let me know in advance if you need a place to stay.

Is there any changes to the 2008 rules?

I will try to post the up-dated rules in this section again.
For some reason. Part of the words get cut off on the left side when I tried it before.
    But to answer youre question.
This year we made the following changes.
Widened the bow and stern quadrants for aircraft-carriers with a beam of 80' and more to 60 degrees (total).
Allowed the pre-dreadnaught battleships to have side-mounted cannons.
Allowed cruisers with all of their main armament mounted forward to have a stern cannon in the aft superstructure.
And moved the start date for ships that can be built back to 1895, to include more of the WW1 era ships.

I don't thnk there were any changes the previous year.

We had a great time at Eric's build session today.
Eric was working on his Lion class battlecruiser.
Phil had his Emile Bertin class French light cruiser to work on.
But he also had his trusty old Suffren class French heavy cruiser,
to show Dan how it was set up.
Dan ended up purchasing the Suffren from Phil, and this will get him on the water in no time at all. And with one of the best cruisers in our inventory.
Bat's Dunkerque is ready,so he was working on Josh's pocket-battleship, so that Josh could concentrate on his new project.
Josh had his new Von Der Tann.
And I had my new Prinz Eugen German heavy cruiser.

We all got some work done on the boats, and had some laughs.
I was able to get some photos, and will post them later.
We called some of the folks that were not able to attend, and talked about the boats, and the 2010 battling schedule.
    In addition..
We discussed the multi-format events that we have had in the past, and came to the same conclusion that we came to when the club was started. And that is getting together with others that want to run boats is not only a great time, but is benefitial to everyone.
So we are planning to have some multi-format events again this year.
We called Buddy (BBS), and he also thinks it is a good idea.
So at this time, we are looking at having multi-format events with the big-gun groups (probably most often), in order to get that format active again (in our area). Also with the fast-gun groups (on occasion). And late in the season, have one or more with the Battlestation group (96th scale), in order to get that club off the ground.
We also talked to Roland (up in Ravenna), and he is having problems with his P.C. at this time.
He is planning a build session in Ravenna on the weekend of March 13-14.
He is also planning to hold battles in Ravenna, but we might have to limit them to three days, or possibly even just two days. Which is better than not having any for sure, as that is the prefered battle site for some of the group.
We spoke with Bobo (Red Lion, Pa.), and he is planning to have battles out there later in the year as well.
So all in all, it was a great time, with lots of good info, and laughs.
It was great seeing everyone. Thanks to all that showed up. And thanks to Eric for putting up with us.

Some of the other stuff we discussed this weekend was the new rule concerning the aircraft carriers bow and stern quadrants.
It looks like some of the Dayton area locals will be getting together in the next week or two to look at some of the plan sets that we have on-hand, and try to start construction on a large, and fast U.S. fleet aircraft-carrier.
From the sounds of it.. It will probably be either a Yorktown, or Lexington class.
The plan is to get it done in time for the last couple/few battles of this season, so that we can see how the rule-change currently under R+D will effect the game.
We will post up-dates on this build.

We also discussed the topic on the WW1 era battles.
What we came up with was to allow ships between 1895, and 1922 to participate.
I will start a new database, so please take the time to list your ships so that
we can get an idea as to how many folks are interested in this.
The plan is to try this on a couple occasions during this battling season.
Perhaps only one battle at a couple events.
So when the opportunity arrises, we will have the WW1 era ships battling
between the sorties of the WW2 era ships.
    Sounds like fun.

Is that launched, in service or laid between 1895 and 1922?

For the ships that were completed, they would have had to be launched between those dates.
For the Hypothetical ships that were not completed, they would have had to be authorized for construction, or ordered, between those dates.

I like the old ships being included. Long live the Pre-Dread Revolution!

Though now I have a hankering to do a Salamis.

I have always been more of a WW2 era buff myself. But the more I read up on the early stuff, the more interested I become.
It is not the arms race itself (from that era) that intriques me, but the theory behind some of the interesting ideas that the various navies
    came up with.
And the ships look cool too.

Not me. Its like old plantation homes for me. The beautifully restored ones lack the charm of the near ruins. WW2 era ships are too "perfected".

After speaking with some of the folks, and the site owner, about scheduling the Denmark Straits event, it appears that Memorial Day weekend will work out best.
So the Dayton area group will be hosting this event at the Xenia, Ohio battle site on May 29-31 (Sat-Mon). Memorial Day weekend.
The folks that attend, and the captains taking part in the re-enactment of the battle of the Denmark Straits will decide which day to actually have that battle, which will probably take place in between the normal sorties of the other ships present.
We will most likely only re-enact the Denmark Straits one time during the event, with the option to possibly try it more than one time, if there is enough interest.

We have also been discussing the possibility of offering an invite to one of the other groups to attend this event, and turn it into a multi-format event, where either the big-gunners, or fast-gunners (but not both), could come and battle in between our normal sortie style battles.
So the plan is to throw out an invite, and see if either group is interested in attending.
If the other groups do not attend, then we will have the pond to ourselves, and run with it.
We will post up-dates on lodging options, and that sort of thing in the near future.
We hope to see you there.

Here is a list of the events that are either scheduled, or planned for the next few months.

    May 1-2 (possible). Ravenna, Ohio.
Roland is approaching the site owner about a 2-day battle at the Ravenna, Ohio site.

    May 15-17 (possible). Newark, Ohio.
We have approached the BBS about inviting Treaty to attend their scheduled Armed Forces Day event on the weekend of
May 15-17, as a multi-format event where Treaty would battle in between their normal sorties.

May 29-31 (Memorial Day weekend), (Denmark Straits event), (scheduled). Xenia, Ohio.
Our Denmark Straits event is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
This will be a Treaty event, with the Denmark Straits ships re-enacting the battle of the Denmark Straits in between the
normal sorties of the other ships that attend. The Denmark Straits battle will take place at least one time during the weekend.
We are looking into offering an invite to the other groups that might want to attend, and battle in between our sorties.

July 29-Aug 1 Washington Treaty Conference. (scheduled). Xenia, Ohio.
The Treaty conference is our annual 4-day event (nats). Thursday-Sunday
We are still looking into either inviting another group to battle in between our sorties, trying some sort of theme battle (WW1 only/WW2 only),
Denmark Straits, or some sort of capture the flag type battle.

I just spoke with Josh, and he is going to try to schedule a one, or two-day build session at his place in Cinci, sometime in April. He is going to get back to me on the dates, and I will post an up-date.

He is also scheduled to meet with the owner of a possible battle site in the next week, or two, and let us know how that goes.
We will post up-dates on that as well.

Josh says he could host a build session on the weekend of April 17-18 in Cinci.
It might be possible to include part of Friday as well (16th).
I will post his address soon.
