Hey, is it feasible for a 4.5 unit battleship to have 4 guns and a 1/2 unit pump. With the high output motors and restrictor designs coming out, can it be a good idea? Thanks

Check to see if your rules allow that combo ;)

"6. The manner in which offensive and defensive units are combined and used is the choice of each captain, but it may not be changed during the course of a battle. Offensive unit positioning may be changed between sorties of a battle."

    along with
"d. Any authorized ½ battle unit may be used as either of the following:
    1) A ½ unit pump, provided it is the only pump on the ship; or
    2) A 1 ½ unit single shot cannon with a 75 BB magazine"

    so yea, i think so.

In the MWC its not allowed. You can only split a pump in a class 1 or 2 ship, except for the 3.5 unit cruisers over 625 ft, or the pre-dreds. It may be allowed in the IRC, but not sure about it.

    Like David says...

The key wording in (d) is... 'authorized half battle unit', which as he pointed out is only on those ships he listed.

that is the type of set up I have (3 guns 1/2 pump) on the Boston will but it is a 3.5 ship...
so the answer is yes if you are 3.5 [:D]

I was looking to see if there was a specific rule that prohibited it though.

It's prohibited by the 'authorized' part... there is a rule that outlines which ships can use the half unit as a pump. There is also a rule that says class 4 and above have to use the half unit as an extra 25 rounds in a magazine of an existing cannon. So it's definately prohibited. Sorry.

    Monk, he's asking about a 4.5 unit ship, not a 3.5...

You are correct Fred: there is no problem with a half unit pump in the larger classes in the IRCWCC rules.

It has been discussed at Nats and is specifically allowed. Some were planning on outfitting Tennessee's with 5 guns and a half unit pump.

authorized in IRC simply means it has them... meaning any ship with a 0.5 tagged onto the unit list can have the half unit pump as its only pump.

Oooo.... I want to do Dreadnought! :) I don't think MWC would change that rule, though... :(

i thought dreadnought was 4 units, so it would work under this idea.

Not really worrying about it. My next big evil thing is 1/96, so no fast gun rules apply.

If you think a 1/96th scale Bismark is big I have seen a 1/72nd scale version of this. Nuts. Have you seen the 1/72nd Yamato in this disscusion threads? Also nuts.

I've seen a 1/72nd Yamato. You need a very large boat trailer to haul it to the lake.

That sounds immense, on par with the 1/20th scale graf spee.
Anyway, the ship i was thinking about with this is the French dreadnought Provence, of the Brentagne class.

I am a crane operator by trade. A small hydro crane would be needed if it sinks.

not to be mean but you dont have a ship running yet lol bro think about the 1st one and get it on the water. i know i think um like you. get one on the water (we)have bad days and good um still new have 6 battles and still changing things and i probably will change more in the next year so dont think about another ship until youre happy with the one you have. thats my experience so far in my first year.
