Hi. I am BattleshipBoy. I just recently came across R/C warship combat and thought that while crazy( guess I can't say anything about it being crazy. Considering that I play paintball), that it might be something that I would like to try out. I like R/C vehicles, I have an airplane, a truck and buggy. And I have always loved to build things. But I do have a.....Hehe Boat load of questions before I make any decisions.
I guess I better start asking.
Are there any clubs in my area or close to it?
What are the differences in the rule sets?
What would be a good beginner ship? I would like a battleship if possible:).
How hard would it be to build said ship?
Hmmmm I think that those are all my questions for now. I apologize if I was long winded.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Look at the top of the page. Click on "Locations".
You will see that there are several captains in the same general area as you.
Looks like IRCWCC is the most common group near you. They battle in Greensboro N.C. and Statesboro Georgia. See battle schedule.
Best bet would be visit guys, attend a build session and/or battle before deciding on a ship to build

I do have another question though what are the differences between fast gun and big gun?

mostly guns size. fast gun shoots standard bb's big gun uses various sizes of ball bearing depending on the caliber of the gun shooting. the ircwcc is a fast gun group.

    Welcome!
What are you thinking of when you think of 'battleship'? There a lot of very different ships that can be named such.

I really need to make a chart for this. Check this post for a basic breakdown of some of the differences: https://rcwarshipcombat.com/threads/how-do-i-begin.444723/#post-507284
Bear in mind that the most important difference though is in what is 'local' to you. If you're surrounded by FastGun, fixating on BigGun probably won't get you on the water very fast.

I was thinking about the Alabama, Or the Missouri( not the Iowa class)
What about Big gun Southeast? Are they still active?

I don't think that concept particularly took root, but I could be wrong. I seem to recall that most of the folk interested in that already play FastGun, and are involved in the SteamPunk and Age of Sail ideas as well. @Tugboat is attracted to everything shiny really but would probably know more on the status of BGSE.

Alabama being BB-8 or BB-60? BB-8 is too early to be legal in IRCWCC Fastgun. BB-60 (SoDak class) has a fair reputation as a solid Allied ship.
BB-11 (Missouri) is also launched too early for IRCWCC FastGun

Then it sounds like I'll try fast gun then. I also have a couple of friends from church that are interested in fast gun.
I was talking about BB-60. I apologize for not putting down the ships' classes, I didn't know what they were at the time. And I didn't know that BB-11 was that old of a ship either. Is a battleship too ambitious a ship for a beginner? I don't have to build one right now, I am flexible.

@McSpuds is probably closest to you. He does fast gun. BGSE is pretty much dead, as besides myself, the other two main guys keep getting deployed by the Navy, so they're not battling at all :)

I saw your Sb-101 thread Tugboat. I might try that out as my first ship.

That is good to know. I am going to start figuring out what I need to build one. However I can't begin building until after I finish my current project. MUST......FINISH.......EVADER........MUST.......FINISH........EVADER!
Thanks everyone for answering my questions. I'll be sure to make a thread when construction begins.
