No frequency is not the major issue. That radio offers functions not suited for combat such as 2 throttle sticks a rudder stick and switches for other channels. A gentleman bought one probably 15 years ago came to a battle and it was a nightmare for him.
Depending on the rule set, having two throttles is a no-no unless they are always tied together (no individually controlling motors). But you might have something else up your sleeve.
I do, it's for a battle stations ship. Dual throttle control is allowed. And that's what I'm after. You can also modify those radios with added sliders, buttons ect. It's either that or a futaba/robbe fc 16. The fc 16 would actually be better.
As a tank guy, I'd consider using a dual channel mixing robot/tank ESC for dual throttle boat setup. Using one stick, you'd have very good control of the two drive motors. For the rudder you jumper off the "left-right" channel going into the ESC or use a third channel.
Here's an example: http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-SABER2X12-RC.html Waterproof? Should be easy enough.
For that price I can get 6 speed controls lol. I think I would rather have the radio as its far less likely to fail or get wet and fry.
you might also look at the taranis (which runs opentx) and using one of the many sliders on the side of the TX to mix in the differential throttle you are looking for. Heck, being opentx, you could use the left/right slider for throttle input directly (one throttle each slider)
I know, I just like old school stuff, and to be different. Also I'm not that well versed in open source, lol.
Can any of these use a wheel for the rudder? I'm finding it awkward to manouver a ship with airplane controls : ( I need to figure out how to mount these to my radio : http://www.reddenmarine.com/seastar-solutions-ch5200p-twin-s-top-mount-control.html
Oh how we have become enamored with the cheap direct from China slave labor made parts. There was a time when a $65 made in the USA dual channel mixing ESC would have been considered a bargain.
Well, you have a point, however when you decide on parts, the stuff getting wet tends to be of the least expensive you can find.
OK guys, I am only interested in a radio with twin throttle sticks like the above mentioned two radios. This is what I want, I will not be swayed from a twin throttle quadrant setup. I may just have to put a robbe throttle quadrant in another radio.
You might have better luck finding one on a scale model boat forum. I doubt anyone here uses something like that. They are better suited for rivet counters than combatants.
If you're looking to help turning by using differential control of the drive motors, I'd recommend one of these radios and use the mixing feature to do the differential steering. It's easy to do (heh, I did it so it must be easy) plus it is much easier to control a ship with one stick than two. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...eceiver_Mode_2_v2_Firmware_US_Warehouse_.html
I want full proportional control or each throttle on two sticks rite next to each other. I have no need of mixing as it is not how I want to do it. But thanks for the suggestion.
