Bob Pottle is selling a Graf Spee hull. Does anyone think that the Graf Spee would be a good beginners ship? Or am i wasting my time even thinking about it?
If there is some merit, what kind of layouts could/should be used? Thanks for any and all help.

For IRCWCC a Graf Spee isn't a good choice for a first ship. (For MWCI it is, but if I remember correctly you are close to the IRCWCC guys) By IRCWCC rules it is 24 sec which is the same as most of the big battleships so you can't out run them. If you go class 4 or even 5 while you may be slower than the battleships you gain other advantages that make those boats much better as a first choice. That extra second isn't the end all be all but it makes it much much harder for ships to chase you down and damage you.

Of course, in Battlestations, Graf Spee is wunderbar :) A shade light on armor, but HUUUGE.... tracts of land!

Yea? i know battlestations is a whole nother beast, but, in your opinion, is the Grag Spee a good ircwcc rookie ship?

    Nopers :)

MWC, its better, but in IRC without the speed advantage, it's not as cool.

James, if I told you that I just ordered enough wood to make 2 escort carriers (after the 2 Evstafii), and a 1/96 ship 76.25" long which shall remain nameless, what would you think I was building? ;)

Always building something, ehh tug? Hey, have you/or are going to update your website? i looked at it, and most links said "opps, you seem to be in the wrong place" with what i assume to be a pic of a soon to be torpedoed ship.

I am deciding what to do with myself :) Right now, I'm working on the Alaskas that I have promised, and building 2 Evstafi predreadnoughts in 1/144. I have 2 Kents in stock, and one HMS Duke of Edinburgh. I am still working on the best way to lay up the monitors (they're tricky lil buggers!). The wood hulls are easier for me to do a good job on, so I'm doing a few to help pay the bills :) The escort carriers will be USS Charger (CVE-30), which can also serve as HMS Charger (or HMS Avenger), or FS Dixmude. I really like Evstafi, it's pretty, 3.5 units, and I may do another couple in the future since these two are spoken for already.

After some thought, I'm probably going to overhaul the website to make it easier for me to post what's actually in stock, especially with the wooden hulls being more 'random' than the fiberglass ones (number of type limited by number of molds). My sickness and then busy schedule have rendered the dates on the site pretty useless. Also, it's cost a fair bit of money just to comply with Georgia's business law crap. Might do better under the table, so to speak. Any updates will get announced here.

What does the Kent and the Duke run for ircwcc units? Glad to hear it, the site looks great, its just not user (or from the sound of it, webmaster) friendly. Best of luck, glad you feel better, and hope your schedule lightens up.
