MWC does have some members in the Chicago area. Also there is a large group Port Polar Bear that battles in Minneapolis-St Paul area. I, myself am located in Centeral Wisconsin and battle with the polar bears. When looking for a boat to buy and build you should find what club you would like to battle with. Also go to one of the local battles or build sessions. Most people are more than willing to share and help rookie captians.

Welcome and hope to see you at a battle.

Welcome! I'm one of the Illinois builders (haven't been to a battle, yet) and I've got an Iowa-class battleship largely built, except for guns and windows in the hull. Myself, John Marino, and Ethan Cosgriff are considering a build meeting later this month or in September sometime; we'd love to have you come and hang out with us, see our boats, or better yet, if you decide to get a ship kit, join us in our building/tweaking. Either way, you will be welcome!

MasterClay: If Breve isn't interested in my USS Brooklyn model for sale. I'd be happy to share the photos of the kit to you also.
I bought the kit in 1998 and never got around to finishing it. I did lightly sand the hull and mounted two support beams on the deck. That's it. The rest would be up to you. I still have the original box, instructions and ALL parts. Let me know if you'd be interested.

That's pretty much the consensus for all three of us currently meeting for build sessions: my Iowa is running, but has no guns, John's IJN Yahagi has its motors and shafts in and windows cut at last report; Ethan's Pre-dreadnought Scharnhorst is actually combat ready and attended NATS 2011, but he's doing tweaks and adjustments.
