    Greetings,

Does anybody have a copy of Conway's All the Worlds Fighting Ships 1860 to 1905 and access to a scanner?

I've been searching for a copy of this book and it always seems to be about $150!

If anybody would be will to scan a few pages, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance [:)]

Here is a source for about $85. Visit this site.

Not sure if I have it in my collection, but what pages are you looking for?

And, have you tried your local library? They can oft times borrow books from other libraries for you, even if they do not have it themselves.

    Cheers,

    Hey James,

Well its the classic paradox, good plans and no info, or good info and no plans [}:)].

I think I finally found a way to get my large collection of free French Warship plans off of the computer while bypassing the minimum wage kids at Kinkos ( who have been no help ).

    I'm looking for info on:

    French Ships:

    Redoutable 1876

    Courbet, Devastation 1878 (I think)

    Amiral Duperre

    Amiral Baudin, Formidable class

    Tonerre (harbor monitor)

    US:

    Uss Virginia BB13

Do you still have my email address?

    Thanks

I should still have your e-mail. Will probably get these to you on Friday.

I got my plans set for Louisiana Monday. I still have not been able to give them a good going over but the seem very complete.

That Russian book on the Admirals came in on Saturday. Skimpy on the hull lines but may be workable enough for a rough model.

I just recieved my plans for the "Admirals" as well,

I agree about the skimpy body plan, but its enough to show how similiar the hull was with other classes of British Ironclad. Even looks pretty close the HMS Inflexible plans I have.

Where did you get your Louisiana plans from? Maryland Silver? I ordered the plans for the Virginia Class not to long ago, still waiting for them to arrive...

Maybe may nickname should be "The Plans Collector" [;)]

Could I also trouble you to add one more ship the Conway's list?

The French protected cruiser Tage (1886). The CAA plans for it are well detailed, but I can't read the dimensions...

I am also looking to pick up a copy of Conway's 1860-1905.
I do not have one just now, but here is some info I have from the book
French Battleships 1876-1946 (Warship fotofax), R.A. Burt

    Redoubtable
    313' 2" waterline length
    64' 8" beam

    Devestation Courbet
    312' w/l
    67' beam

    Admiral Duperre

What other info would you want from this book, if any?
I will hopefully run down the Conway's book in the near future.

    Froggy,

I'm hoping that Conway's will have some info concerning armor thickness/layout in addition to the ship's dimensions and displacement.

In addition, some of the early French center battery/barbette ships were still in service long after they were more or less obsolete, but continued to recieve various upgrades to their armament.

IIRC, Redoubtable was originally armed with muzzle loaders, but I have seen a pic of the ship in 1890's and it clearly shows more modern, BL weapons have been fitted and the masts/sails have been removed and military masts fitted.

Amiral Baudin and Formidable had their middle barbettes removed and some point and a box battery of smaller weapons was fitted in its place.

The CAA (French Archives) has a really good selection of plans for obscure ships, so much so that you could build a accurate model of some ships you can scarcely find a reference to online [:(]

    Wreno,

Thats some of the info I was hoping for. Anachronus sent me scans of the whole entries on the ships.

With a ship like Redoutable that stayed in service for nearly 40 years during repeated technological revolutions I was certain the ship was upgraded numerous times during its career.

Photos (and now Conway's) confirmed this. By the 1890's the ship was completely armed with modern, BL, high velocity guns.
