On the original ship? Or for a specific rule set?

    Interesting question.
None of my books mention armor thickness. I am under the impression that subs probably didn't have armor.
I could be wrong on that though.

If you are talking about the balsa thickness allowed. Then it would depend on which club you are running her in.
As far as I know. All small-gun clubs would allow 1/32" balsa.
In big gun, she would probably also only get 1/32", although I think I have heard somewhere that some club might allow a minimum of 1/16" balsa even on um-armored ships like DDs and such, but I can't recall where I heard that.
I am not sure about 96th scale, or 72nd scale clubs.

How much armor does the submarine have? If it historically had less than 3" of main belt armor (most likely, since it's a sub) then it gets 1/16" balsa.

    Did subs have armor?
I know that they had a Pressure hull...
I would suspect that it would be 1/16"

Here is what our BIG gun club uses.
Armor Thickness of Ship Maximum Balsa Thickness
    0.00" to 6.99" 1/16"
    7.00" to 11.9" 3/32"
    12.0" and above 1/8"

Other than the pressure hull submarines have about as much armor as a destroyer.. ie. none .

The main defense of subs is being hard to hit. They are not built for slugging matches, alas.

In Battlestations, we give subs 1/16" hull to make it easier for them to survive submerged ops. (got to go deeper in 1/96 to clear the surface traffic than 1/144 does!)

the drafts are much deeper, so that is true! I cant wait for this to bloom. Starting with a convoy ship is a good idea, right Tuggy? Cuz Ive got a great German Destroyer-sized fleet tender in mind.
