Now that I'm stationed in Naples, Italy I find myself on this site a lot more than when I was actually battling. Since I had never introduced myself in the first place and I had to redo my Username, I figured it would be a good time. I've been an MWCI member and regular battler since 2011 and own two completed ships, a Tegetthoff (purchased) and a Tirpitz (built). I have only battled in regionals so far with the guys in SCRAP (Southern California Regional Attack Patrol). I'm planning on building a few more ships while I'm out here and hopefully next station will be near an MWCI club and I'll be able to attend NATS/Brouhaha. For now I can only watch the youtube videos. I hope to see this hobby continue to grow and meet even more good people while doing it. Jeff
Beaver, If I listed all of the ships I plan to build, I'd be here for days compiling it. Next on the docket I will probably build an Italian ship to commemorate my tour out here. Mike, Hope all is well with you. You going to push forward with the Queen Elizabeth project?
Yeah, that sounds sort of like my list........ Which Italian ships are you looking at to build? My personal favorite is Counti Di Cavour class battleship after their 1937 refit. Beaver
Jeff, The QE is now Tugboat's ship. It has a build thread on here as the Malaya. I have a Tennesee hull for my "big ship" now. I know of a laser cut Roma hull up for sale. Also if you want something smaller and easier a Capitani Romani is a handsome choice Mike B
Beaver, I really like the Doria and the Cavour classes. I saw a Littorio laser cut kit here for sale and am probably picking that one up. The Italian candy striped air-recognition stripes are, I think, particularly cool. Jeff
Mike, I'll have to hop on over and check out Tugboat's Malaya build. How is Tennessee coming along? We have one here in SCRAP....very very hard to sink. I'm also probably going to pick up a Regolo from Bob Graybill once he has the kit down to a fine art. I love that little ship. Jeff
Greg's Littorio kits are excellent from what I hear. Cavour is my favorite battleship so far, and plans are to build one for fast gun as my main battler. Beaver
The Tennessee has hull cut, sub deck kit installed (strike models), and a bunch of superstructure (strike kit). Looking to get it done by summer or so.
Beaver, Yes I do love the Cavour class too but if I were to build her, I would be looking at doing a wood hull straight from the plans. Since I've only ever built one ship and it was a full kit with superstructure, I'm not quite ready to take the full step of going straight for wood scratchbuild. I'm looking to take the intermediate step of using a laser cut kit and building the super from scratch. Then the next ship will be me creating my own from just the plans. Perhaps it will be a Cavour. Glad to hear Greg's kit is high quality. Looking at his build thread, it's absolutely gorgeous. Jeff
Mike, Yeah, you're a bit faster than me in building these ships. It took me over a year to build Tirpitz and I'm sure if I decide to purchase a Littorio Kit it will take me around the same amount of time if not longer. You'll have to send me some Tennessee pics when you get a chance so I can look them over. I know your PD is kitted out for Big Gun, are you kitting out Tennessee to come play fast gun or will she also be a Big Gun build? Jeff
My PreDreadnought is Fast Gun which the Tennessee will be as well. When I make some progress I will send pics
