Does anyone on here Cut out wood hulls for people on the side? I have a set pf plans for a ship and was wondering if anyone would (assuming some of the guys on here do this) be willing to shoot me a message about getting a quote on the potential cost. I want to start working on another hull to have as a loner but do not have the time to cut her out. Pm me if your interested in discussing it. Thanks! Jon
Draw it up in CAD and have it laser cut. Or just buy a fiberglass hull - probably much easier man. There is so much work involved in cutting out ribs by hand...hard to put a price tag on that. I for example have countless hours on not just the cutting part, but the planning part built into the ribs. Things always change when you work with wood. Cheers. Thomas
I know of a few people who have done it before. If you post what hull you want built and to what rule set, that might help.
As a middle way between buying a fibreglass hull and building a wooden one, you could consider this method: http://www.modelwarshipcombat.com/howto/QuickFiberglassHulls/FiberglassHull.htm I won't say I recommend it, because I have only built a 25cm, non-combat hull that way so far, although I have a 60cm merchant underway. Things that are easier than building a wooden hull: - The ribs only need to be cut on the outside -- i.e. they are solid sections through the hull -- and can be made of something easy to cut, like balsa or even cardboard. - The ribs are just stuck to a baseboard, with scrap bits of balsa as a keel between them, not carfully mated to keel and subdeck. - The skinning is not structural, and does not need to be watertight, just needs to support the fibreglass when you are applying it. Things that are harder: - Attaching the subdeck to the hull - Cutting out windows for the penetrable area - ??? I'll find out more as I go, I expect.
I can't use CAD and I hate fiber-glass with a passion haha As for posting the hull I can say it is for big gun rule set and it is a larger ship. I am just seeing if anyone is interested in doing it right now I just do not have the time to do it myself as all my time is going towards the construction of my Tirpitz. Just curious to see if anyone dose this. If not I will drop my plans into Photo shop so I can separate the ribs and send them to a laser cutter when I have the time.
