I've received approval for my burst disc cannon design, after rigorous testing, and I'm pretty stoked. It's a single-shot, single or multi-barrel, cheap, lightweight, cannon meant for torps.
I have seen this gun in action and the simplicity of it makes it very appealing for anyone who has a boat a bit cramped for room and needs to reduce on weight
I would love to see photos and drawings, but looking at the age of this post, it might be a very long time before we see anything.
Ok, here it is, in all it's simplicity. Barrel, retainer, body. Retainer fitted to body, no burst disc fitted. Assembled cannon.
Wow, that really is simple, what did you use for the parts? Looks like it would be good for sub torp tubes.
This cannon is for HMS Rodneys submeregd torps. Haven't used it in combat yet, I keep forgetting it's there. One day a merchant will hug my bow, and pay the price. The body is made from a 1-3/4" to 1" PVC reducer and a 1-3/4" end cap. Internal volume is about 65cc. The threaded section, retainer and cap were recovered from a hair dye bottle. (no, I don't dye my hair, my wife dyes hers). The brass parts were turned on my lathe from stock with the barrel flared and slid in from the back, and epoxied in place. The size of the hole in the brass part determines the burst pressure, and you'll need to use a bit of trial and error to get that right. I use a section of disposable latex glove for the diaphragm. There's a small magnet embedded in a lump of metal putty at the base of the barrel, to hold the 1/4" bb in position.
