whats the best angle when shooting your cannons at another ship(big gun), ive seen some photos of ships that are right next to another ship and their cannons are depressed all the way down, they fire, but the shot comes back out of the water and misses the ship when its like half a foot away, does this happen often? and is there an 'optimum' angle to stop the bb's bouncing back up out of the water?

I think this is largely a matter of personal preference on your battling style. Too depressed means not enough range, too level means some ships can get "under" your guns. Many Big Gun ships use servos to control depression for different situations. Mine is currently set for 3 positions for simplicity (think "sniper, general use, knife fight/boarding parties").

    Cheers,

Most ships have different settings for different guns. My dual sterns are quite flat - they can hit from just behind the stern to maybe 20' out. The haymaker is set to hit the water about 6" out - in is in a higher mount so will do belows. The B turret gun is set at about a foot out because I can't control the bow as well to get in close. The bow gun is pretty flat as there isn't any way to put any down angle without bouncing off the hull.

I think everyone's guns in the Ausbg have servo's attached so we can pull the barrels down from horizontal till they hit the decks, barbette or whatever stops them so we can look at our ships and judge for ourselves what angle we want and when to fire. My guns are on a slide control like a ratchet operated pot but a sliding volume control from an old stereo and my right thumb operates the speed and rudder toggle in 1 and where my right index finger is is the slide control for the elevation/depression. My left side has a rotation pot on the transmitter top mirroring the elevation control but a pot, and the toggle is left /right for rear rotation and fwd /rear for fire fwd fire rear.
I actually use all 6 functions of a 6 function set. Could do it easier if I slaved the rotation of fwd and rear together but cant be bothered as I can operate the rotations independantly to hit both sides at once.
