Which is better & Why for fast gun ships?

Piston interrupted or Ball bearing selector gun?

And is there a good source for detailed plans for a piston interrupter cannon? ~ That shows size/ tolerances of moving parts?

I have one purchased through a supplier for reverse engineering, but wanted plans to give to my friend the machinist.

I don't know which is better. I use the interupter type. There is no really close tolerances to my guns and most parts can be bought over the counter. The list is on my web site. It is not 100% accurate as there are variations on it. I will try to find time soon for a detailed gun build picturial as I will be building guns again soon. Perhaps you would like to come up on the 18th and I could take the time to show you a gun if you like. I think Donanton is planning on coming up to work on his NC and I will have friends from Mass here so you could build with neighbors.

I appreciate the offer, but unfortunately the 18th is my work/school's open house. It's the only Saturday I'm required to be at work.

I'm looking forward to meeting the area group.

Ball bearing guns are slower shooting than piston ones because the ball bearing gun waits for gravity to drop the ball rather than having a spring force the piston down.

Also Ball bearing guns have some problem with multiple shots since the gas filled magizine can force another bb past the rounded top of the ball as it drops.

Just ignore him. We want you to post here Powder Monkey :). Simply be the better man and ignore him.

Give me a call sometime if you want to chat about boats and whatnot. I will PM you my phone number.

And mike, knock it off. If you have a problem with the child friendliness or combativeness or whatever of a post, bring it up to Justin, Tugboat, or Myself. Do not pick a fight.

As the originator of this thread, I find no offense to the sophomoric comments posted here.

I appreciate their input to my question, and look forward to future assistance. That assistance is why I post here. The camaraderie is why I come back.

Powder what is it that you are upset is allowed? A help thread turning into pottymouth smack (which will undeniably tend to turn new people away) or me calling it a bad example (and thereby trying to correct it)?

Perhaps you could persuade Justin and Greg to open "SmackTalk" and you could take a try at defeating my argument away from prying eyes. Certainly any post could be redirected there as inappropriate by the moderators and administrators, and that would be a good thing in many cases. Tell you what, I'll spot you all your buddies... but it is going to be hard for you to win the argument seeing as you have a moderator tag... and should be setting the example, not lowering the bar.

If that makes you mad, sorry.

What do you use for the "selector" part of the cannon.? Is it a turned down aluminum nail? Is it a sheer pin from the slide out drawers at the hardware store, or some sort of rivet?
