is there any "how to" video available for purchase, or on you tube? specifically on cannon construction? I can pretty much build anything once I fully understand how all of it's peices work.. would it be a better idea to purchase an already made cannon and reverse construct it myself? I've looked at alot of the diagrams and pictures people have made and while I 'get' it.. I don't 'understand' it mainly the breach/reload assembly I see all these peices that people talk about and I just can't see it in my head to understand it. my main reason for asking is to get people involved in my area I'm thinking I might have to construct a few hulls to sell, and make some cannon assemblies. for the record I'm an auto technician and a custom fabricator .. so I am used to making complex things work well (especially after they've broken!) but I have to understand all of it's workings before I can do that. and for my own ships I am jumping right into some really small things (as you may have seen by my couple other threads asking questions) so I will probably have to completely make my own cannons to fit into my needs.
There is an animated diagram showing a cross-section of a standard rotating Big Gun "Indiana" style cannon. I don't remember where it is but I'll see if I can find it again. My brother also had a thread about big gun cannon types, and I think he included a diagram of the breech. The key is to set the height of one ball so the next overlaps it just a bit. When the cannon fires the ball in the breech pushes the other back up the loading tube, though it rolls back down the tube into the breech after the cannon finishes firing. If you need to buy cannons, BDE RC makes good big gun cannons.
