Hi again. So, I am looking at some models to build and have a question about casemates that are built into a hull. I have not built a model with them before. How difficult are they to incorporate into the structure. The ship to which I am specifially referring is the Russian Gangut. There are guns poking out all over that thing. How would you go about building something like that? Ryan W.
I'd construct the main part of the hull (keel, ribs, subdeck) and _then_ add the casements below the subdeck, which is where they go on Gangut anyway. After epoxying the casements to the subdeck, I would drill a 1/8" hole thru both the subdeck and the casement, and drive a 1/8" oak dowel into the hole to make a better join. Hmm... sounds like what I'm doing right now!
Hi Geek, Different people have different methods for building casemate guns, depending on their club's rules and the equipment they have. I am working on the casemate guns on my Mikasa right now, and hope to have something photograph-able in a week or two. Progress is slow due to shortage of shop time
I have them, they are readily accessible. Only hitch is that the frames drawing is post-mod and the plan and profile drawings are pre-mod.
Well, I am on the fence about which version to build. We see to have a strong WWI contingent in my local club, which is cool. That is pushing me to consider going with the earlier style. Besides, if I don't like it, I believe I can just rebuild the superstructure later to resemble the modernized ship, correct? I am also looking at the Empress Maria class, as they seem to be a bit simpler in design. What do you think? R
Go for the early version. Pokey ram bows and smoke-belching, coal-burning smokestacks are lots of fun
Achtung, Schudenten!! I haff acieved my geatest ZOOKZESS mit der smokemakink by usink small 2kg bagz of coal, stowed away inside allied hulls undt LIT ON FIRE een order zat zee smoke billow from zer hulls. Ser goot, ja???!?! JA!!!! Heil Fluegel! **Zadly, vhen zis wass attempted on FregatenKapitan Lou's ships, no difference in ze quantity of shmoke vass zeen. Very zad day for der Tugboatwaffe. But HEIL FLUEGEL anywayss!!!
Kotori: damn to the depths whatever muttonhead thought of the rule "no pyrotechnics"! Gascan: That would be the French...
My first thought was a can of black spray paint placed to spray out the funnel. But it got all over the walls and work benck, drove the wife cRaZy LOL!
