Oftentimes I'm looking through pictures and I think I see a BB in flight, but its hard to tell if it is just a water drop or something else. Today I was looking through pictures and found the following gem shot by one of our captains who was sitting out a battle thanks to a faulty pump. Lets look at that a little closer... That's right, he caught not one, but two bb's (fired by the Derf's stern guns) streaking towards the Warspite. Who else has action shots catching BBs in flight?
OK, How fast are the BB's going??? and Don't you have to use a high powered camera to get that??? that's cool!!! Nikki
I would guess at more than 180 feet per second and probably less than 250 feet per second. This picture was shot with a Nikon D-5100 and a stock Nikkor 18-105 lens.
I love good action shots like that. It really helps to have a mode that shoots a very quick series of shots, I don't think the lens matters much in that regard. It's great for getting those action shots at just the right moment. I think it says good things about that twin stern that both are even with each other: means they are firing at about the same time and same speed.
Guys, I show my mom that photo and her mouth just drop, and she didn't know what to say, but i thing that really neat, to be able to get BB in flight like that!!! it take a good camera to be able to do that!! Nikki
Its much easier to take good shots if your camera can take a bunch really quickly. That's how I got shots like these: Rodney 1, Rodney 2, Rodney 3, Rodney 4, Rodney 5 Rodney vs VU 1, Rodney vs VU 2
Are those 1/4"? Isn't regulated speed 165 fps if tested with the foam? Looks like the left barrel is shooting harder.... ball covered more distance than the right barrel, and the gas cloud is larger. Interesting shot.
.177" bbs. Fast-gun doesn't regulate speed or force, just co2 pressure. The left barrel may have been tweaked a bit tighter than the right.
