Hello, i am new to this hobby and dont now anything anout building rc warships and was wondering if anybody has any useful tips or suggestions. sincerely, james
Hi James! In the 'For Sale' section, Bob H has a very good DVD for like $5 that explains it all nicely. I don't get kickbacks from Bob's DVD empire or anything, unless you count him getting the opportunity to put BBs in my ships once or twice a year. But it's a great DVD. I've been doing this for years and still enjoyed watching it. Short of that, read through Mike Mangus' build thread (it's stickied under 'Warship Builds'). And read a bunch of posts. But the DVD is the easiest fastest way short of going to someone's house and looking at their boats, or going to a battle. Where are you located?
I'd post a 'Hello' message int he Introductions section with the title 'New Battler in Northern California', which'll get the attention of the appropriate people. Rest assured that there are battlers in your area, though.
Tugboat, Redding is actually a few hours north from the Western Warship Combat Club (San Jose), so it'd be a bit of a drive for him. They're also just about to have their last battle for the season on November 11th. I'd also suggest the intro DVD, and also looking on YouTube for videos. If you want to check out our business (Strike Models), there's a video on the home page that also shows some information about the hobby.
one other thing... will the cvl zuiho be a hard build because i have looked foward to building an rc model of it for a long time?
Greetings! I am over in Reno, NV (about 3-4 hours away). I have been in the hobby for many years and can help you out along the way. I also happen to build Japanese ships. The Zuiho would actually be a pretty simple build, although depending on the format you choose might not be the best first ship as in some formats, carriers are used for convoy runs and do not have guns. Some formats (Big gun and maybe treaty) they get guns baed upon how many planes they carried. I would look into what format interests you the most/is closest. I know the WWCC guys in the bay area are big gun, probably about the same distance to them as would be to the Reno area. Also there are several guys up in Portland/Seattle but I'm not sure how far they are away from you. Good luck and if you have any questions shoot me a message.
