I am building a 3.5 unit Sverige to be legal in Treaty, MCWI, and IRCWCC. My question is on units. Treaty allows for splitting of units--say a 75 round bow, 75 round stern, and volume based pump output set at 1/2 a unit for battleship rules. My understanding of MWC and IRC rules are that you get one 1.5 unit gun per ship to round up to any half-unit a ship gets. So it would have to be armed with one 75 rd gun, one 50 round gun and a pump with a 1/8" output. Is this an accurate reading of the rules?

You are correct. A 3.5 unit ship can have:
    1) a 75 round cannon, a 50 round cannon, and a 1 unit (1/8" outlet) pump
    2) three 50 round cannons and a 1/2 unit (3/32" outlet) pump. Some restrictions may apply depending on MWC or IRCWCC
    3) since it is a PDN, one of the cannons may be a sidemounted cannon

I think I will go with three 50-round cannons then. I am assuming that since there are only two turrets, one turret will need to be duals (stern or bow), and the other can be set for bow/stern or sidemount.

Yup. That is the setup used with French PDN Verite. Twin 50 round sterns, a 50 round bow sidemount, and a half unit pump. :)

In some battles, I have pinned a cannon to get a full unit pump.

In Evstafi (built before the sidemount rule), I ran a pair of bow guns and a full unit pump, and it was still hilarious to drive :)

Interestingly, it seems the original builder of this hull (big gun) powered the outer shafts. The rudder is under two square inches, but it is a really nice brass one, so I will leave it alone. It looks like it will be a challenge to fit the Clippard solenoids under the deck and fit the magazines in the same area.

I will start a build thread as soon as I repair the Battlestations Gustav's rudder and cannon mount for this weekend. Pics shall be included.

Tug, what was Effie's .5 unit? A stern gun?

I am thinking Roma with 75 front, 50 rear and a full pump.

No, it was before the rule change, I just armed her with 3 units and threw her out against Steve Andrews' NC. We had great fun. I let him shoot me all he wanted, and he let me shoot him all I wanted, and he actually sank. He was so excited about 'the little turtle boat' that he wrote 'Turtle' on the back with a sharpie :) After I get the Nats BB and convoy done, I'm finishing the refit on Effie.

The PDNs have so little volume, I can't imagine needing a full unit pump. Mike M. has done it, so he can probably provide better guidance on when/why to use one.

Roma having only 2 guns does limit my options.
