RE: FS: Books and Ship Plans I need a good reference book with many ship's plans / layouts.

Jane's? / All the world's battleships? / Ships of WWII?

You own them; if you were to keep just one which would you choose?

    Justin,
What exactly do you mean by layouts? Do you mean plan views or profiles? BTW, any of the drawings in the following three books are simple drawings, and other than showing basic layout can't be used for modelling.
Ships of World War II has a photo, a table of basic specs, and a description of each ship. The book is not all inclusive like Conway's or Jane's, but has the more famous and popular ships from the major navies of WWII.
All the World's Battleships is a collection of all the battleship data from the two Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships books covering 1906 - 1946. This books has pictures and simple profiles of each battleship plus the Conway's data and description. The photos are larger and there's more photos than in the other two Conway's, but there's no plan views.
Jane's Fighting Ships of World War II is a lot like Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships. Conway's data is more accurate, but Jane's has more photos. However, whereas Conway's has a profile of nearly every ship class, Jane's has a photo. For the most part in Jane's, in addition to a photo, DDs have a small plan view, cruisers, BBs and carriers have larger plan views and profiles, and other ship types have no drawings at all.
Personally, if I were to pick only one book I'd pick the Jane's, especially if I already had Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships. If you're only interested in BBs, then I would recommend All the World's Battlships.
    Hope this helps,
    Carl

    Justin,
I prefer PayPal, but cashier's check or money order is fine, too.
Send me an email and I'll give you my contact info.
BTW, my email address was in the profile, but there's no way for other members to see it. I guess that'll be fixed when you get the PM stuff up and working. Kudos and thanks for taking on a complete new install. I know that's got to be a MAJOR pain in the butt for you! ;-)
