Full size to 1:144 conversion

    could someone tell me the conversion scale to take the diminsions of a full size ship and make it 1:144 scale?

    Not for everything but for linear dimensions yeah its that simple.

    1 inch for 12 feet in 1/144

    Or, since there are 12 inches in a foot, and since 144=12x12, you can take the 1:1 dimension if feet and divide by 12 to get the scale dimension if inches.

    Mathematically, this is original/144 (to get scale in feet) * 12 (to convert to inches) which is the same as original/12.

    Remember grammar school math? X/144*12 = 12*X/144 = X * 12 / 144 = x / 12

    Well, if you start in feet and divide by 144, you get the scale dimension if feet (which can be a pain to deal with).
    If you start with the dimension expressed in inches and divide by 144, you get the new scale dimension in inches, which is easier to deal with. But then you usually have to calculate the original dimension in inches, which can be a bit of a pain.

    Thus, the simplest solution (for me, anyway) is to divide the original dimension in feet by 12 to get the scale dimension expressed in inches.
