I’m looking for in put. I'm going to run my Boston duel stern and single bow, I know I know your all going to say run triple stern! I just cant I want to try it this way. Just wondering why all say run trips and if any one has tried it this way maybe learn from some of your mistakes before I get on the water
    Thanks again

    frog,

What tactics do you use with the front rifle?

I say try it, then try bow side mount, then triple stern. Then write an article for scuttlebutt on your findings.

As a cruiser he can't have a sidemount.

The reason that everyone suggests triple sterns is, they do more damage. When you have three BBs impacting close together, there is the chance to take out a good chunk of balsa and make a big honkin hole. Duals just don't hit as hard. Most cruisers are only 3.0 units and have only duals, so it's been done often. Triple stern cruisers tend to get a lot more respect.

Also, bow guns have been known to be dangerous to the person using them. Often, new captains get excited and keep moving forward while they are bow-gunning people which leads them into ramming more often.

So yes, dual sterns work, but they just don't work as well really. Yes, bow guns can work, but they can get you in trouble. All things being equal, your set up isn't going to generate as much respect from enemy captains as a triple stern set up would.

From Experience so far with my Des Moines. Tripple Sterns are nice if you can get off a shot. Problem is all good captains will have an eye out for you and allways seem to break off an attack as you are all lined up and moving in for a shot. Not that I am going to change my setup, just I wounder if she would have been more ffective in a different gun layout.

I agree with crzyhawk... & Yeah, forgot he had a cruiser...

Rag, there are other tactics you can use other than run and gun, don't know if you've read the commodore's site... but it might give you a few new tricks. You might also consider focusing your trips for longer range if you find yourself needing to back up to "get your guy" only to have him run off before you get there.

With the bow gun, I'd probably mount it in "B" turret and angle it 15 degrees off to the side. That way you can put a little bit of down angle on it and have a chance to score some "on" or maybe a few "below" (gonna be hard though) hits with it when you're doing "drive-bys" for lack of a better term as kinda of a sniper. That way you can keep moving and have a little bit less of a chance to ram someone, because you'll probably approach them from an angle rather then bow straight on.

So your standard attack run would look something like
Of course if they are silly enough to chase you, you give it a little bit of rudder and give them stern guns until your magazines are empty or they decide that getting their bow punished with your stern guns is NOT in their best interests and they leave you alone. I love the death spiral.

Keep in mind I am rather new to the hobby, so I am still learning my boat. Only been to two battles so far. I am sure there are lots of other things I could do with what I have.

Powder I can tell you with out Accumulators your guns will loose pressure shortly after the second burst. Definitely get Accumulators for those triple sterns.

Personally I would still go with them. It makes sure you got good pressure behind each shot,
