Well thats it folks, over before it started..

Uk gun law as of october 2007
....No mail order on Air Guns or pressure bearing parts : eg barrels, silencers, complete valve assemblies or piston assemblies will not be allowed under the new legislation....

Unless a fully licenced UK shop starts selling parts over the counter we cant by the gun parts.

Its not even mail order into the UK its ALL mail order even within the UK

You want to see the rest of the law about where you can and cant fire an air gun?

The Penalties for breaking current UK firearms laws with Airguns are as follows:-
Carrying a loaded Air-weapon in a public place 6 months imprisonment and / or £5,000 fine.
Trespassing with an air weapon 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.
Trespassing on private land with an air weapon 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.
Possessing or using an air weapon if sentenced to 3 months or more in custody 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.
In addition if original sentence up to 3 years 5 year ban on use of firearms.
Or if for 3 years or more Life ban on use of firearms.

Firing an air weapon within 15m / 50ft of a public highway £1,000 fine.

Having air weapon or ammunition with intent to damage property 10 years imprisonment.

So the safety Nazis win again, RC Naval Combat in the UK basically impossible.

    Rule Britania my f***ing arse.

Any of you guys in the USA got room for a pissed of Welshman and his wife?

Warship cannon may not qualify as an "air-weapon".

The parts to build warship cannon can be found at hardware stores, and industial supply stores.

What about airsoft guns? I seem to recall they are popular in your area.

It would appear that the airsoft thing requires registration in the national United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association (UKARA) player database as well as keep the energy of the projectile under ~1.25 joules (which is not necessarily sufficient to penetrate balsa....)

Didn't the AUSBG have to jump through some hoops to get approval? Perhaps their experience could be of benefit to get a waiver or something.

1.25 Joules is more then enough to penetrate balsa in small gun. For a 0.177" BB you need to be shooting just a little over 269ft/s for the BB to have 1.25J. I dont know of any guns that battle at 269ft/s. Hard hitting guns are closer to 220-230 ft/s, and average cannons are below that. Not sure if that help play in the UK or not but our cannons are pretty low power.

That's a possibility too. Small gun ships do require less energy to punch through our 1/32" balsa sides. They're also simpler builds then big gun ships.

Small gun cannons are also relatively simple and cheap to build when compared to big gun cannons. A lot of small gun guys in the US build their own cannons.

"Great" Britain is not known for their flexibility when it comes to projectile devices. The safety and PC Nazis pretty much rule over there. This is the same country that will only allow you to own an air weapon if you are a member of a shooting club and keep it locked at the club.

    Bummer!!

From the sounds of the laws you posted, air guns and their use dosen't seem illegal. Just looks like you would have to be on private property, and away from a public road with them???

    However:

I guess the entire reason for our hobby is to damage property, and with any luck, send it to the bottom heavily damaged!!

Sorry to hear about the laws[V] [:(!]

Yep, the more i've looked into it the more difficult it seems.

Its not totally imposible, but knowing how much time and effort and lets be honest, cold hard cash you guys put into your ships, there's just to much chance here of building something only to have it made totally illegal in the next raft of anti gun laws.

There are people in power here who will only be happy when anything that can fire any kind of projectile no matter how harmless is illegal. [:(!]

It sucks but there you have it.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone, your a good bunch of people, i hope it continues to grow and you guys can all keep on doing this for as long as you want to.

May your guns never jam, and your pumps always prime.
    John.

He can't do that... for simple possession he'd risk the same term (5 years) in jail... talk about irony. A nice letter would be much better.

However, if a club does form around a core of an existing shooting club, they might just be able to get permission. Permission is harder to get than forgiveness... and in this case, forgiveness comes with a hefty jail term. But you'd have to have a club, a private pond, and an agreeable gunsmith all lined up and then argue with the lawyers to get to permission.

Junkyard wars started in England didn't it? Maybe they'd pick up and do a similar theme for a show :) Get the 'ol tele involved in a postive way.

Sure will be a long hard road... Seeing as simply building the boat can be considered a crime.

I have two alternate rc combat ideas... and I'll post them for what they are worth.

I've often thought that if you build models of planes, (strange, I know, boats that are planes) and have squirted water as the weapon, then a couple of conical collectors here and there, a pump for damage control, and away you go. No danger of projectiles there.

I know it's not ideal, but you could do the same kind of thing with the boat models, as a step to convincing the authorities.

I've thought that if you built dirigible models of say futuristic space ships... this would be really cool. Helium is not that hard to get... no pump for damage control needed... just a drain :) I've thought that models of ships from the Star Trek universe might be just the thing :)

Okay, I'll put on my flameproof suit now :)

Helium prices are suppose to sky rocket up in price this year, and become much harder to come by. The US government is closing down their Helium plant sometimes this year, and it makes like 50% of all the Helium produced. Saw it on the news a couple of months ago.

Yep! Better use hydrogen. You can get it cheap from water, AND it provides more lift per unit volume! How's that for a deal? Besides, who ever said airships were boring?

Regarding alternatives, there is a VERY active R/C tank combat group in the UK. They battle several times a year.
