Hey all, I just watched an episode of Ghost Hunters and apparently the Battleship North Carolina is haunted. The night watchmen have seen an apparition on several occasions. They think that some of the crewmen who were killed by a torpedo hit are still there.
    Just a point of interest.

It is said that the Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet out here in Alameda,CA is haunted. It is in their advertisement and I think I saw a book in their gift shop about this. This ship offers night stay overs and some people swore they have seen things.

More realistically, the watchmen got creeped out while running around belowdecks at night. There is nothing creepier than being alone in an empty warship (or even just engineroom lower level at 2AM in port, with nobody closer than the SRO 2 levels up!)

In Suisun Bay, the mothball fleet rests there with the mighty USS Iowa. She has been there for awhile and was supposed to be sent to Stockton, CA to become a tourist attraction along the waterfront. That apparently fell through, as other deals have, when stories arose in local newspapers about her being haunted. It was reported that on several occasions numerous of the forty-seven crewmembers killed in the 1989 turret explosion, were observed at their battlestations still performing their duties. Whether the 'eyewitnesses' mentioned in the articles were correct in what they reported or just "spooked" is hard to determine. Yet, the Iowa remains with the other reserve fleet ships, whether due to a lack of funds or just being haunted.

My father's wife (umm... step-mother?) taught one of the sailors who died in that turret.

Latest on the Iowa. Valeigo ( wish I could spell) CA. First problem. Channel not deep enough to bring her to Mare Island. This was awhile ago. Our company was painting the vessel from the waterline up when the Stockton fiasco struck. The decks were to be repaired. I talked with th boss who was to do that job and the deck is rotting away. I will keep people informed when I have any info.

Actually he said that once he was in his room and the ghost was at his door and once he was on the dock escorting a friend on board and they both saw the ghost through one of the portholes.
You are absolutely correct about ships being creepy at 2 am. Many a duty watch was spent looking for the "unknown" sound you know you heard.
