    Hi everyone,
Looking for any groups in the New England area.
Currently doing my reading homework in preperation for a scatch build.
Looking for more information on mounting everything.
I read through the build for the Edgar Quinet (nice) but it seemed to have stopped before it was finished. Is it continued somewhere else?
    Hungry for more info :)

von Tugboat has had some other projects come up and has never completed the Edgar Quinet build thread. There are several other good build threads on this site that will be able to get you through a build.

    Oh welcome aboard!

I have promised to finish the thread. I need to have Prince of Wales ready for the Labor Day Leadfest. On the plus side, I've already made further progress on Edgar Q, and have pics to use in the lessons.

Steelfest surely. Isn't lead verboten? Good to know Edie will come to completion. The more CAE's the better I likes it!

To answer USSNH's original question, the good gentlemen of the IRCWCC are the nearest battlers. If you post in their section they can probably hook you up.
EDIT: Please don't tell Carl and Steve that I called them gentlemen! :)

Like Tugboat said there are a couple of guys in/around the Boston area which would probably be the closest. We're having a battle over labor day weekend in upstate NY, just south of Albany. That might be a little far to travel just to see/meet people but it is an option. I'd suggest joining the IRCWCC group on yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IRCWCC/) as I don't think many of the Boston area guys are on these forums much. Welcome!

    Tugboat,
I eagerly look forward to the Edgar Q build. (Excellent tutorial)
My build experience is with RC Aircraft, 3 to my credit 20 plus yrs ago.
(Hard to believe it’s been that long) :whistling:
Slowly climbing back into the RC (Planes/Boats) world again hopefully dragging my nephews along for the ride too. Definitely not expecting any resistance there.
I have been reading all the how to’s and such until my eyes are crossed and I have a headache trying to catch up on the RC world and Naval Combat stuff.
Being a hands on person I am at a point where I need to see it.
Thank you for the lead on IRCWCC.

    SnipeHunter,
    Thanks for the lead.
I work at Hanscom AFB, MA in the Boston Area. (Close is a relative term around here 10 miles can take an hour or more to travel at times) Albany is about 3 hrs away not too bad. (After being stationed in AZ and TX a few hours travel is like going to the corner store.)
It’s nice to know the sport is alive up here. I was beginning to think it was only a southern sport Maryland and below.

    Thanks,
    USSNH :)

NY area is alive and well. We have had quite a few meets over the past few years. We sometimes make them 2-3 day weekends so traveling 3 hours for a weekend is doable by most of us. The battling is vicious and the meals are excellent. I like to shoot for about three a year. There is good ponds we use in NY and we have research/developement days. (basically what new terror can we turn loose in my garage!) Check it when you can.

Welcome aboard Mike. Do you know which format you want to build your first ship in?

    Morning Ken,
IF I understand correctly there are seven disciples.
    1. Queens own -
    2. Big Gun -
    3. Treaty-
    4. Fast Gun –
    5. IRCWCC
    6. MWC
    7. Battlestations!

To be honest I am not a 100% clear on the rules, but I like the idea of a scaled realistic look and play. So I guess I am leaning towards a Big Gun type. But really have not decided at the moment I am reading listening and learning. Is there a simple snap shot posted that compares them? Perhaps I missed it. At the moment I only know of an IRCWCC unit in NY. I have not come across any others in New England :( , although I understand there are a handful that travel from the Boston area to NY.

I thought I would start out with a PT boat scratch build just for fun. Something to share with my nephews and get them interested too (He is interested but gun shy about watching a $1000 boat being sent to visit Davy Jones). Found a couple of plans for the PT Boat just perplexed in how to scale them correctly (any hints are welcome, its probably obvious too and I am not seeing it.). After that I was going to do the Edgar Quinet. I enjoy the build part too, Winter is coming :).
As always I welcome anyone’s constructive criticism, thoughts, suggestions and opinions.

    Mike

PT boats are way too small to start out with. I wouldn't go with anything smaller then a 600ft long cruiser or battlecruiser. You want to make sure you have plenty of space to fit things in. Can smaller ships be built? Of course, but they are generally trickier builds.

    crzyhawk,
I understand that what you mean about the size thing. It wasn't meant to be a competitive combat ship.
I had always liked the PT Boats. It would be just a fun boat 3-4 foot long something to build a couple of them together with my nephew and tool around the lake I live next to. Cheap, simple, easy intro to boats (my experience is RC aircraft his is RC cars that is why he doesn’t like the idea of it sinking.). Have plans just need to figure out how to print full-size plans out at the correct size.

I was assuming you were going to build it in the same scale we use. A 1/144 scale PT boat (80 ft Elco) would be ~6 inches long.

We'll be there all day Sunday and probably till mid afternoonish monday. You should come visit, it is the best way to really see the hobby and find out what it is all about.

Sinking is half the fun, build it right and you can be back on the water 30-60 min after a sink battling again!

    SnipeHunter,
    I am forming a plan.
RC Combat (BBQ, camping, and new friends sounds like heaven to me :D) would be my ideal way to spend a 3 day weekend, but I have family members that don’t understand the concept of getting away on a 3 day weekend and therefore plan family events on long weekends.
    What were they thinking? :whistling:
What time Monday morning would be good?
I am looking at a 3 hour trip one way so if I can do it I would want to make the most of it.

Sounds good, if you can come it would be great to meet you in person.

Memorial day weekend when we did more or less the same thing I think we were there till 4-5ish, battle will be in the morning, we generally aim for a 10 start time but that is pretty flexible depending on who shows up and whatnot. We might do an afternoon battle, we might not, again it depends on what people want to do and how many need to leave for a long drive home.

To drive 3 hours for a battle unfortunately really isn't that far in this hobby but I do get it when you're just starting and going to look and see what the fuss is about. I drive about 90 min just to hang out and work on boats with Iceman sometimes in the winter. This hobby really is a sickness, it is so much fun.
