    Hey yall,
I'm going to college down here and was wondering if there is any groups down and here and if so what format? Money shouldn't be to big of a major issue however distance could be the main deciding factor.

    Thanks,
    Claytor

What kind of distance? This hobby is very spread out and for me, 6 hour drives are local (Boutte, LA) and you are about the same distance from there. You are about 6 hours from several battling locations in Louisiana, Georgia, and North Carolina. Most of these would be regional battles that would bring in folks from 6 to 15 hours away depending on the event.

@VVaholic and the rest of the crew in Atlanta looks to be the closest to you. They have a pond and do local battles, seems to be a lot of cruisers which would be economical.

Atlanta is your first best bet.. once you get a ship built you can visit the rest of the places.

It will take me about hours to drive home and I know there is a group about an hour from there in Dayton, Oh; so anything past 9 hours in a big inconvenience. Also, what rule set does "the crew" run in Atlanta?

    Welcome aboard!

I don't know of anyone < 3 hours from you right now, You might talk to Mike Mangus ( @mike5334 ), I think he's over in Mississippi right now, but not sure where he is battling.

As far as I am aware, all the GA guys play IRC fast-gun, with some projects of some of the misc newer formats underway, but no battling of them yet.

You're in a really good position actually for the concept of 'reasonable drives' for multi day events. such as regionals and Nationals.

I think the Ohio group runs Treaty battles so you would have to decide if you want to travel home to battle Treaty or travel to Atlanta (3.5Hrs , the closest place for local battles to you) using the IRC ruleset. In addition you are close to several other IRC areas such as Statesboro (6:75 hrs), Wade's in Lousiana (6.5hrs), Oakboro NC (8hrs). You are in a great place!

I believe Mike is 3hrs from you but I am not aware of any battling in that location, he could tell you what that location is like.

You could easily make Wade's in March, Atlanta on any monthly battle, Labor Day in Statesboro, October in Oakboro.

My rule of thumb is 1 day battles I will drive up to 300miles depending on how many folks attend, Regionals 6hrs (always) up to 12hrs depending on how many attend. 6hrs is a long drive for a few hours of battling.. unless there is nothing else.

You are so close to so many venues!! I am jealous!!
