    Hey guys,

I'm Jim from OKC, OK. I've been in the RC modeling hobby for many years, mostly planes and a few cars. I've been rather dormant lately with the occasional exception for small park flyers. Years ago I started building ships. I have a mostly complete DKM Scharnhorst and the hull and some superstructure for a USN Pensacola class. I dug them out of mothballs the other day and started working on them again. I think for the time being I am going to forego arming my ships and just have fun running them around area ponds. My Scharnhorst was armed but I removed all of that equipment and replaced the barrels with more scale-like barrels. Ships seem like an ideal way of getting my daughter into the RC hobby. Planes are too complicated. Most cars are too fast. I signed up here to ask some questions as I am definitely out of touch with current building techniques.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Welcome.
My first boat was the Salt Lake City. Pretty nice boat.
You don't see a lot of them.Which is pretty cool too.

A good friend's grandfather was on the Salt Lake City during WW2. My building of the Pensacola was attempt to get him interested in the hobby and build the SLC while I was building her sister ship.

The Salt Lake City was in one of the longest daylight surface naval engagements of the war.
I think she was with the Richmond, and a few tin cans. Outnumbered almost two to one.
    A very interesting battle.
