Hello I pinged upon this site and I have looked around for Titanic-related thread and found some cool stuff. I would like to build a 1:87 model of it, and I would love to share the process with you all and get any insight you have. I have mostly done HO trains in the past (hence 1:87 and not 1:96 or 1:72) but I need some salt air. I am starting from scratch- I'll be reading a lot of your old threads and I need help locating some plans, vendors for laser cut wood hull frame members, motors, RC gear, props, all of it. I do not want to battle it, but there is a lot of knowledge here that I would love to tap into.
Sounds like a fun project, a scroll saw will make short work of hull formers, keels, ect. If you can't get some laser cut. There's also the world of 3d printing to help with superstructure parts and small scale details.
I did more searching around and I found some deck plans and a place that has a body plans and hull lines for a fee. I know that there have been many times that I have started something but I think that this time there was a large enough dramatic event (large personal life upheaval) that I may yet be ticked off enough to get something started.
Welcome. You're welcome to hang out and ask questions, who knows, may be you'll decide you have a pressing need to sink things Another resource would be the folk at http://shipmodelers.com/index.html - they're more focused on scale modeling than we tend to be, but their annual regatta up in Bellevue is really neat IMO.
Maybe... someday... It is after all the Titanic! btw, according to the Captain and Club map we're practically neighbors, I'm over near 320th and 21st (without getting too specific) =P
