Hey I came off to a bad start on this site but I'm new to this so pardon my mistakes. I live in Cornwall (there's no wall of corn:p) but I will be moving to toronto in the fall. I wanted to be in big gun but the only clubs around me are fast gun. I hope to learn more about this hobby by looking around the forums.

    Welcome aboard!

Many of us had shaky beginnings, don't sweat it.

I was initially more interested in big-gun (its those dang rotating turrets that hook everyone I think), but my local club plays fast-gun, and I absolutely love it.

    Welcome,
I didn't care what rule set I was able to play as long as there was a club for me to join, so it's all good. Though I am now thinking after my fast gun ship is built, to build a Battlestations ship.
Look around and see if there is a club up in Toronto, and maybe it's the rule set you want. Good luck and Happy Sinking!

Yeah I was writing my intro when the bell rang and I was forced to go to class :( . So now I am able to continue free of interruptions. The one question I have is concerning the free plans under members. Are they able to be printed on 8.5x11" paper in 1/144 scale or do I need a special printer?
Oh yeah how do you add a picture to your profile? It really puzzles me:blush:

I think some printers are capable of splitting the image up to 8.5"x11" sizes and printing them, the problem is reassembling it into one sheet so that everything is still straight & true. Its honestly a lot easier to just take the image and go to your local Staples and have them print it out for you.

I agree with absolutek. I did that and printed three sheets(for a different set of plans) and paid like $6.00 at 32x24. Not to mention I get a lot of my printing done through Staples and think they do an outstanding job, that's why I go back to them.

So I can just print the plans on 32x34 paper?
What size paper would I need to use if I wanted to print the 1/96 plans for the surcouf (plan-ing ahead gettit:rolleyes:) what size paper would I have have to use?

    Welcome, Ebaneser!
The hull lines for the Surcouf fit nicely on a 8.5 by 11 piece of paper. If I'm right, you'll need at least a 46in long piece of paper to fit her in 1/96.

What ship are you planning to build for your first ship? :)

Staples can print out the plans on ONE sheet of paper, whatever the size. I believe most of them are already scaled to 1/144 scale.

So if I print the surcouf 1/96 plans on 8.5x11'' paper they will come out in 1/144 scale? For a first battleship maybe a super dreadnought and maybe with enough experience a Takao.

No, if you print the 1/96 surcouf plans your printer will probably try to resize it to fit onto a single 8.5"x11" sheet. It will not resize it to 1/144 and print it out on multiple sheets unless you tell it to (you will have to figure that out).

Ok thanks I guess I will have to make the plans by hand but that's just part of the hobby. :) I'm actually interested in monitors because of their weird design however the low draft is quite a limit. :(

Speaking of monitors I was reading the forum on the ugliest ships found in WWII and I think the ugliest ship on the water in the 1900 was the novgorod monitor. That was one weird ship but it looks like something cool to build.

"Found in WWII"? Built in the 1870's, decon'd in 1903, scrapped 1912. Last I checked, WWone started in 1914. Heh...gotcha

hehe. We all mess up sometimes. One of those monitors were built for Big Gun. Check out Dustin's Arkansas build for photos.
