Hello, I have probably looked into getting myself a ship for a few years, however, being young, I dont have any money to really spend on this.
So my introduction will sort of turn into a 'please help with this' thread.

    A coup,le of questions:
1.) where can I buy affordable warships? Here on the forums? Maybe at a club?
2.) Does anyone know of a club near my location (esparto CA) I have done my research, but have turned up empty handed every time.

    Thanks!

    hello Ironwolf

I am just north of you in willows ca, I belong to pacific model warship club. We battle 1/72 scale, we have our events just a few miles to the east of you in lincoln ca. We also have members in Roseville and Auburn. We are a group that loves to build and fight model warships. We have loner ships available at our events if you are interested and there are several of us that are available to help you get or build your own warship. Please feel free to visit our web page. If you need anything please feel free to get in touch with me.

Hello Iron Wolf: Hopefully we can find out a few more things, before you make it to an event. We do have a few ships available so it would help to know what your interest is; Allied/Axis? Once we know this, we can then see if there is a current ship available or if one can be built for you. Maybe you are planning to build for your self. I have plans for dozens of ships already printed up that I can give you if this is the route you would like to go. We also have a member that will build a hull and superstructure for you at cost. I currently have one of his ships, a USS Fletcher class destroyer that is available, but it is an empty ship right now. I also will build guns for serious members at cost. How young are we talking? Are you able to drive to Z-Boats house in Roseville if we got you an address, where you would be able to see a wide assortment of ships and how they are put together? Give us some more information and we will get you into a ship.

    Hey Gary.
So to make a few thing clear which I left out in my first post (Was tired that day and needed to get some stuff done, so didnt have the time to write it out) I will write out a better 'intro' below:
I have been trying to at least get a ship kit for the past 5 years, and have contacted many people on how to get started, and have nearly always been told 'join a club' or 'go to a club event to see how you like it' however, I lived nowhere near any club that was close to active. And money was a huge deal too.

My current age is 15, will be 16 in October. I have decided to best thing for me to do is to try to make it to the event on August 1st to get a good feel for it (even if I cant 'pilot' a ship, at least I get a good 'feel' for it) Then, if I really like it, wait a couple years, then hop into the hobby.

As for my interest, I have always liked the look of the Axis ships (specifically Germany) more than the Allies.
As for planning on building one myself:
I would love to, but I have neither the skill, resources, or money to do so.
Again, I am not planning on getting into the hobby right now, what I want to do here is to 'test the waters' and see if I like it.

Now a couple questions from me:
Would I have to pay any money at all to go to an event/be a part of the club?
Does using a 'loaner' cost money?

Like I said in the above, it would be awesome just to be able to attend, even if I cant 'pilot' a 'loaner'.

    Thanks!

As for the joining a club thing and how much would it cost. We have a club, but there are currently no dues. We have never required anyone to join and pay dues, before we would help you. I know of another club here in California that requires you to join their club, before you get any help from them. As for joining or not if you prefer, send me your email address in a private conversation (here on the forum) and we will start sending all our written communication to you. As for building a ship, none of us knew how when we first started, but there is plenty of help out there. This forum is great for getting help. It obviously takes tools, but often you can get many of the important one at local yard sales (small dremel saw, dremel moto-tool and x-acto knives) and you will be well on your way. As for a loaner ships, there is no cost to run one. No cost to attend and watch. It's our way of letting you try it out to make sure it's right for you. If it is, you will know right off and not want to wait to start building your own. Where kits do exist for 1/144 combat, there are not any for 1/72. As for seeing what the axis have to offer our member "Z-Boat" in Roseville is the one to see and talk to. He has everything from the DKM Tirpitz, to the Lutzow, several Z-Boats, T-23 and a minelayer. A couple Italian destroyers also. If you are serious about r/c combat, we will help find a way to help you. As for attending, our September event would be the better one. More captains and ships will be there and a bigger variety of sortie types are run.

With your email address I can send you a copy of our old set of rules (currently being revised) and a couple prior newsletters to help you get a feel for what our group is like. Keep asking questions and I will make sure you get them answered.

    Ok thanks!

As much as I would love to just jump right in and get started, I am not in the position to do so. I dont have much time to spare, and I feel I will be better equipped in 1-2 years. I will send you my email once I have time (probably later today.)
