hi im new to this site and have never built an rc warship before. That being said i would like to find and build a replica of HMS Edinburgh the ship my grandfather served on during ww2. This ship is the sister of the Belfast which is one of the best known ships so i figured there would be plans for it somewhere. does any one know of any?

RE: HMS BELFAST KITS There is a book on HMS Belfast in the 'The Anatomy of the Ship' series, which has plans that will exceed any expectation. I have it, got it off of Amazon. The dust cover comes off and has full ship plan and profile views, I took it to the local blueprint shop and had it expanded to 1/144.

RE: HMS BELFAST KITS I built one from scratch along with my friend who build the Edinburgh. Great cruisers and highly maneuverable with great location for fore and aft cannons .

RE: HMS BELFAST KITS?? Read through the forums to see how others have built wooden hulls (Mike Mangus' Bearn thread is stickied for this reason :) It's not terribly hard, altho some tools are required.

Ihad no plans just a Airfix model of the Belfast and using a geometry set, used protractors to measure distance of the corners of the superstructure , took measurnements of the hull and used a mathematical conversion forumula to upscale the measurements to 1/144. That was back in the late 80s just entering into the hobby. These days it's easier to work from plans scaled to 1/144.

It is possible to arm the primaries in big gun. You just need to be smart with positioning and choose fe of electronics ie. Lipo instead of lead acid batteries

You probably know that Belfast had major hull mods after being severely damaged in WWII, receiving bulges and a more prominent armour belt, which Edinburgh did not survive to receive. For that reason plans of Belfast post-refit are not suitable for Edinburgh.

As heavy cruiser models go Edinburgh is a good choice, getting the 50% rudder area bonus for being more than 600' long and having well sited aft turrets. Performance should be very similar to the Canarias and County Class ships but they have more reserve buoyancy.
