    Greetings all,

I've been looking far and wide for the plans for any of the WW1 Colossus class battleships. Does anyone know where I can get a set? I don't care what scale at this point as I am willing to scale them myself. Help is much appreiciated and happy battling!

It's fairly similar to HMS Dreadnought so you can use those plans from the Anatomy of the Ship book on HMS Dreadnought with some creative scaling.

I bought a set from Tuabman's a while back. If they are still a going concern it was in the R/C combat plans section of the website.

In the R/C plans section. Royal Navy. The price is $29.50

The plans from the combat section of taubmans are George Goff plans, better to order straight from him as it will be much cheaper. However, I generally do not recommend his plans.

Better to spend the money buying AotS: HMS Dreadnought, and adding 1.7 inches to the length and calling it good. I share Chase's opinion of Goff plans.

The good news there being that AOTS: Dreadnought was reissued last year so it can be easily obtained.

Weren't the hulls a bit different in shape, however? I seem to recall looking at doing the exact same thing for an HMS Neptune build I was contemplating. I seem to recall that the forward turret position was way different and the funky bow step-deck thingy (technical term) had a different relative length as well.

This is model warship combat, not fine scale modeling. The differences are small enough that they can be easily overcome with some modifications.

That is actually a fairly hard leap for some of us to make. :)

    Jeff,
If you have to have plans of one particular British ship... NMM (National Maritime Museum). They have virtually all British ships from the 1800s and up. They are pricy though. Probably $120+ for the essential views needed to build an accurate model. I inquired once and I think my quote was $160+- with an extra view probably not needed.

Thanks all for the input. I think I'll go the AOTS: Dreadnought route. Can't thank you guys enough for the support.

MInd the signficant differences in beam. Dreadnought's was 82", Hercules 85' and Collosus 86' 8". Good drawings of all three in 'British Battleships of World War One' by R.A. Burt, but no cross-sections of the last two. I have AoS: Dreadnought and there are plenty of cross-sections. You could easily adjust the dreadnought hull plans to make the Collosus or Hercules.

I thought Collosus and Hercules were sister ships. Why the difference in beam? Different yards?

They were 'near sisters' rather than sisterships, with a lot of detail differences.

Even between sister ships, there are a lot of small differences :) I imagine there'd be more between Dreadnought and Colossus, but as Bob pointed out, one could make do with the AotS book and a bunch of pics/line drawings of Colossus.
