New toys for the Mutsu. Courtesy of HoveyTech. It will use a pair of pulleys and a drive belt to connect the motor to the shaft. The shafts are heavy stainless so they won't bend. This approach moves the motors back almost six inches. Allows for much better spacing inside the hull.

What Phill didn't mention is that the shafts are 3/8 O.D. with oilite bushings and a 1/8 stainless drive shaft. With a wall thickness of 1/16" you could club baby seals with these if you were so inclined. Under the motor is a screw allowing access to grease the stuffing tube.
