I am curious as to how many builds you guys do at one time. I see lots of sigs that have 3 or 4 boats listed as "under construction." My wife thinks I am crazy just trying to build ONE ship. So, how many and what are they? Help me feel better about wanting to build 5 boats at once.

Depends upon what you consider 'under construction' I guess.

I have a Moltke that is the focus of any spare consturction time I get, followed by a Bayern, for which some work is done (it was Greg's, has this nifty aluminum subdeck and fantastic superstructure). I also have wood kits for the Littorio and Texas that have not yet been assembled, the hull of an Orfey, and a Maru in need of refit. And a Mackensen kit on the way sometime soon.

I think thats everything... So you could say I have between 1 and 7 'under construction', depending on how you look at it...

I'm building a Suffren and have a lot more ships that I want to build.
And I know Tugboat has a lot, but I'll let him reveal the number.

I have one ship built and in constant refit status then I have 2 BB under construction along w/ a Golo transport under construction with a Mackensen on the way soon. So 3 under construction with a 4th on the way and possibly a 5th once my research into a good torpedo ship is up to my liking and I can make a decision. haha

One actively working on, two hulls to be played with, scores of others in the that would be fun to do pile.

GEEZ, i'D HAVE TO GO COUNT... Not sure. I'll check at some point. Just assume that at any point in time I use the old Royal Navy fleet-building scheme... as many building as the next two battlers put together :) How many get done in a timely fashion... that's another question entirely :)

My best advice is: Get one boat working really well, and whatever you do on other cool projects, don't cannibalize ANY parts from that one, even if 'that one part' will make your next boat functional.

Build one ship at a time. Get that ship in good shape, as in no major refits needed before you start on another ship. When you build the 2nd one (Goes for the 3rd, 4th, 5th too) make some of the parts modular. The electrical and air system can be shared between ships.
That said I built 5 ships (or most of them) this winter. A CVE, a predread, a NC, a Indanapolis, and a Prince Eugen. All of them had completly new air and electrical systems.

    Generally 0, sometimes 1.

When I build a boat I tend to stick with it for a good number of years. It gets refined during that time and reworked/upgraded as needed but the majority of the time I dont have active construction going. Sticking with one boat for a while helps me work all the kinks out of it and learn how to battle it which I think makes me more effective as as captain than if I switched boats all the time.(it also means that there are fewer and fewer reliability issues as you work everything out which makes battle weekends much more fun and relaxed for me.) Plus I can only fight one boat at a time anyway.

Since I'm not always building a new boat it gives me a lot of time to experiment and test different ideas and theories I have on how to make things just that much better. So while I'm not always building, chances are I still have a few different boat related projects going on at any one time.
