I just ordered plans for the Indiana and want to make my own hull out of wood. Can anybody point me to a thread that will show me how to form and design ribs from the plans. Also, for the Indiana would I still use 3/8" ribs. I did for my Bismarck. Also, is weight more of an issue with custom wood hulls?
The plans often have profile lines for the hull on them that you can use for ribs if there are an appropriate number and where you want them. Suggest reading the Bearn build thread here Or parts of Tugboat's Edgar Quinet here and Brian and Clark (tugboat)'s Vanguard construction series here for anyone looking at building a wooden hull.
Hey Nick, Since there seems to be quite a few requests wrt building wooden hulls, could you sticky the links to those builds in a new topic. That puts them right at everyones fingertips. J
Good idea, I do keep reposting them it seems. This forum or Warship Builds? (Bearn itself is already stickied in Warship Builds)
Well, if you put them here, they will ask in the warship build thread and if you put them there, they will ask here (Murphy's Law at his best). How about putting them here and see how that goes. If there are more asking about it in the other forum, you could post a sticky directing them to this forum and those topics. J
But when I post new stuff in the build section Edgar Q thread, would it update the Edgar Q. thread here as well?
I think we were thinking of a 'Links for Folk Looking To Build A Wooden Hull' topic, not trying to duplicate the Edgar Q thread (and others).
