    Good day sir,
I am pretty new to 3-D printing, having just inherited an Ender 3 from a coworker. You said that this is a step file and not readily printable. I’m not exactly sure what that means, Could you please elaborate? I would very much like to build an Iowa class.

    Sincerely,

    Preston

A STEP file is a universal solid. You will need to import it into a CAD program like Fusion360 and then you have the ability to modify it to make it printable. Unlike an STL file which is just a hollow surface shell that is very difficult to modify for our hobby. This will allow a CAD user to make a printable combat ready hull out of the solid, or cut it into sections to make a rib pattern to make a wood hull.
The community is currently working on making ready to print hulls however at this time you would need to modify the STEP file or try to make your own to print.
