If you haven't been on the server in a while, submarines are available. It's a separate path on the ship tree, leading to naught but submarines, but damn are they fun.
How long ago was that, Marty? I had similar problems when it was new, but the bugs are pretty well worked out these days.
Tugboat, did they ever fix the gameplay issues of torpedo-whoring and money? I never liked how you can lose a lot more money than you earn for getting sunk in a battle. I played in the beta test, and a bunch of people (including me) complained about that issue. They didn't fix it before retail, so I haven't been back there for a while.
Money issue is fixed. There are still torp whores, but if you're in a dinky ship you can outrun the torps outright. If you're in a BB, you can sport enough bulge to drive thru them (once, anyway). Cruisers still need to be careful, but can take a few torps without instantly dying. They aren't the problem that they were initially, as I haven't seen a battle room labelled 'no TW' in a looong time. Subs get only the armament they came with (no customizing), and their torpedoes are short ranged. In compensation, they can dive (where you can only be hurt by depth charges and torpedoes), and their torps are a lot more powerful. Also, once you dive, only FFs and DDs can see you, and then only if they have a sonarman on board. Most people still prefer surface ships, but there are usually 2-6 subs in a big battle. I like the subs because I hadn't figured out the whole aiming the guns manually deal (which you need to do to be a successful CA or BB captain, and I was about to say screw it when the subs were released for general use. Less specialized gameplay knowledge and more sneakiness and tactics. They're more about surviving long enough to get into a good position to shoot your torps.
Hey Tug, I downloaded and installed it, but cannot make an account because I live in Korea. They say I have to use the Korean client. Bleah. Think you can make me an account and send me the info?
I haven't played it in about 3 years, so you can have my account if you'd like? I'll PM you the info.
eh, I figure it'll at least get used that way... and he won't have to start out from scratch, I believe I've got a US DD.... Let me know if it doesn't work. (Although, now you guys have me all anxious to play again... I might have to install windows and download it... if that's the case I have no qualms with starting over.
On a slightly different naval computer game note, Distant Guns 2: Jutland is nearing completion. Storm Eagle Studios, the developer released a brochure that can be viewed online. It sounds like they've improved the eye candy (esp. night battles and battle damage) and adjusted the damage model to reflect weapons and damage control of WW1, as well as significantly improving multiplayer capabilities.
Kenny, thanks for letting me use your account. It's a fun game so far, though I haven't gotten into any battle with actual players yet. Heh. The account must have been wiped clean because there was no ships in it. I had to restart from scratch. That is taking a little while as I try to work up the crew levels to lvl 12. Almost there! If you want the account back, I'm sure Tugs or someone could simply create an account for me. It won't let me because the servers see that I use a Korean IP address and wants me to use the Korean client version isntead of the English version. Heh.
nah, I couldn't get windows properly installed on my computer - so I can't play it. Now that you mention it, I MAY have "sold" the ship to a friend on there.
