Ok Gentlemen I need a little advice on where to start on constructing my Scharnhorst. I bought this hull from Tugboat a few years ago. After several moves and careers, I now have the time and tools to work on my ship. I have a few questions on what to start on first. Do I need to finish up the hull or should I make the deck first? Thanks for the help!

Usually I will start with the subdeck/deck to add rigidity to the hull for handling. Some folks may add water channeling first before the subdeck.

    Cut the hull
mark the inside where the gun turrets go, that way you know where not to put the next items
install the drive system (Gear box, shaft)
    Install the rudder system
    make water channeling
    Make the radio box
    Install a pump holder
    Make the subdeck and deck
    seal all the wood
    interior armor
install the guns and air system
    make superstructure
    sheet
    battle
    refit at least two times

Hull is already cut, decks are in. Fox, if you're missing superstructure, I found some DKM Scharnhorst SS that looks like it went with the hull last time I cleaned out the shop.

    Where are you now?

Tug- I've ended up in Destin Florida... pretty far the boro but I sure do miss that place! I heard its grown a lot!

I just have the hull with the windows cut out. The rudder and prop is in place but that is it. I've got to build the rest. I have the small turrets as well. I got 1/2 plywood today and stated to cut out the sub deck to give it some support. I'll try to get some pic on here to show my progress. Do you still have the superstructure?

1/2" ply might be too thick, max thickness for deck + subdeck is 3/8"

That hull has traveled:laugh: I had a brain fart earlier I did buy 1/4 ply. I cut out the sub deck and I was going to fit it in the hull with epoxy. I'll get a picture up in the next day to show my progress!

You'll want to reinforce the ribs and stringers before you get too far along. Insurance against a shoot-through. But you have the one tool I regard as indispensable: a scroll saw :)

I'm assuming that I need to water seal the 1/4 ply that i'm using to reinforce the ribs and stringers?

Yes. Some people use epoxy, some use spar varnish.
