Hi and greatings from Norway, what do you people think about building a Eidsvold class coastal battleship ? is it to small in 1:144 and do somebody have a picture or information on below waterline ? Thanks.
I have seen a few coastal battleships and pre-dreads, they are challenging but effective. Not sure about this particular one, though. photos or drawings would help.
http://navalhistory.flixco.info/H/288378/8330/a0.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eidsvold_class_coastal_defence_ship in 1:144 the ship is 66 cm long and beam 10,5 cm. bouth ships was sunk by german destroyers in the first battle of Narvik.
Look up HNoMS Norge, Kotori. Some photos, and some general info in Wiki. As for some below the waterline photos, this is all I could find. Looking at it's dimensions, peders4d-2 , it looks like it's about 25.83" long and 4.25" wide in 1/144. Though it might be a challenging build, it could be possible. Beaver
thank you for answering how many guns/pumps are allowed if classified as a gunboat ? i do not find any information on it.
I'd say, looking at different gunboats on the IRCWCC's ship list, it would probably be 1 unit with a speed of 28sec to a hundred feet. Probably not the greatest ship to fight with. Beaver
No maybe i maybe i should choose another boat, Cruiser or something as my first build. And save my drawings of the coastal battleship for next time.
While I maintain that I pick boats because they call to me, something with more firepower might be more fun on the water
Generally cruisers are the best starter boats for 1/144. Here is a list of some of the better starter ships, plus places to get hulls. The Invincible is a battle cruiser, but it is known as a good starter ship as well as a excellent fighter. Not to mention pretty in my eyes. USS Brooklyn http://www.strikemodels.com/products/ships/uss-brooklyn/ DKM Prinz Eugen http://battlersconnection.com/html/PrinzEugen.htm FN Suffren http://battlersconnection.com/html/suffren.html USS Des Moines http://battlersconnection.com/html/desmoines.html USS Northampton http://www.strikemodels.com/products/ships/uss-northampton/ HMS Invincible http://www.strikemodels.com/products/ships/hms-invincible/ SMS Defflinger http://www.strikemodels.com/products/ships/sms-derfflinger/ SMS Von Der Tan http://battlersconnection.com/html/vdt.html SMS Scharnhorst http://battlersconnection.com/html/smsscharnhorst.html DKM Lutzow http://www.strikemodels.com/products/ships/dkm-lutzow/ Beaver
That is a good starting list but I would suggest also looking at SMS Defflinger and SMS Von Der Tann classes as well if you want to step up to a battle cruiser. Both are roomy enough for a first build and perform well on the water. In General, BC's make great starter ships as they large enough to be forgiving to build, are fast enough to escape when you need to, and offer sidemounted cannons which allows for a more versatile ship than a cruiser.
Thanks for the suggestions, Hovey. Added a few more ships that were regarded as pretty good starter ships. Beaver
Thank you all sorry for late answering. I have started building the france cruiser emile bertin. I have almost finished the keel and the building of the ribs starts tomorrow. if i have time...
Looking forward to seeing pics of you first build. Congratulations, it will be a learning experience of for you. Good luck on a fine ship, Beaver
