DKM Komet was my convoy ship from 12 years ago. When I got active again 2 years ago the Komet had a big hole in the bow, and all the servo's had been stripped. I was thinking a quick patch and a couple of servo's.... Turned out that the hole also had a broken rib. I cut back the balsa to the next rib, and set about fixing it. In Washington we allow a micro pump on our convoys. For the Komet I am going to try the windshield wiper pump. I only run a 2 channel radio on the Komet so the pump is wired for always on. Good thin for a loner boat which is what the Komet will be. I had to replace the rudder servo, and make a new MAG switch. The waterproof box is a custom built otter box with an ASB build up to fit the servo. Komet's pain has long since dried up, got a little lazy at the end. Ready for battle.
Is that an Eric Broderick hull? When he was active in NABS he made the Komet mold; we had a couple of them, one armed as befits a German raider!
I bought if from a local member. It was a fiberglass hull. I never did arm it. It is certainly possible, I added quit a bit of lead to get it to waterline. I just never felt a convoy is maneuverable/fast enough to be a combat ship. Looking forward to getting it back on the water.
It looks like one of Eric's hulls. He sold several Komets, C3 hulls, hulls for the British freighter MV Pundua and for Canadian AMCs/Auxilliary cruisers HMCS Prince David and Prince Robert. We developed rules in NABS for armed AMCs and Axis raiders. I think they were allowed a single BB cannon and a 1/2 unit pump, but only one Komet was armed and I never saw it in a battle.
