Question about Kongo Class turrets. Were there any class of ships either in the Japanese Navy or British Navy that used the same turrets? Thanks all,
Thanks much. I was told this was the case. Anyone know if the turrets are available from any of the suppliers? Thanks again,
Yeah, apparently they do not have molds for the Fuso turrets so you can only get them if you get a deck kit. Or something. Fortunately between two Fusos I have some spare ones...
I just completed the casemate area on the Kirishima. I guess I'll start laying up turrets in the next couple of weeks. I always liked the Fuso. The step deck is very far forward which means less target area. Your lucky to have spares.
Plato has Kongo turrets that he got from Nippon and they look really nice, blast bags and little rivets and all the detail you could want.
Quick search and you can find a really nice kit to use for copies. Nothing wrong with making copies for your own personal use. LuckyModel.com - VOYAGER MODEL 1/144 Fuso 360mm MainGun Turret No1(1939) (PE VNJ0001)
How about "mold it" ? or you could 3d scan it and print it on a fancy 3d printer, for about twice or triple the cost of molding it.
If you don't count the price of the 3D scanner or printer, the price of printing is pennies. Literally 10-20 cents of plastic. That said, prosumer 3D scanners are not yet capable of the resolution necessary to reproduce that turret in hi def
making a mold of that would take about an hour.. pouring a usable turret about 30 minutes a day later. if you have a vac chamber. to many little bits that like to get air in them.
Guys, of course you would mold it. I have seen more than a few leave the hobby after they have made their boats "showboats" and cried after a battle. Perspective, make the ship "pretty" (I'll leave that up to each captain to define) but make it easily repairable
If anybody is into molding turrets you might want to look at alumilite.com. They have flexible resins such as flex 70 that will allow you to keep the fine detail and will be durable in war.
my current Shimakaze turrets are cast in alumite. once they get shot up i will see how well it holds together. wish i had used the slow stuff as the fast set in 5 minutes and couldn't do a bomb pour or vac chamber at that speed.
