Alright this will be a slow build for me as i dont have much time in the summer months so ill get done as much as i can. as of right now i got my ship plans from Mark. im using regular 1/4 plywood as this will be just a target ship and im not to worried about how pretty it is i just want it to float and be shot up.

I you do a very careful job of water proofing, even cheap ply can last a while.

alright thank you i wont get the ply cut out for a couple of weeks so the project is on hold right now but i am saving some money on the side for the remote and hardware for this ship. But the rib outlines are sketched on the ply and ready for the cutting, i will also be doing some measurments for the structure and what i am going to use. most likely wood.
Best stuff to use for waterproofing? i used urethane.

You can cut the ribs out without having to buy expensive cutting tools. You can do it with a cheap hand saw. and just do a rough cut around and then sand the ply wood down to the shape. It will take more time but can save you money. also with the radio you dont need to get to fancy all you need is a 2 or 3ch transmitter (forward/reverse, left/right and bump) I have been introduced to hobbyking and you can get decent 3ch transmitters there for aprox 25$-30$. It apparently (i have not personally ordered anything from them YET) just takes a few weeks to ship because it is direct from china. or you can go brand name and spend big $$$$ all depends on your personal preference i guess.

If you're buying from HobbyKing, just buy the 6ch. Basically the same price as the silly 3ch car ones and the 4ch, and really more useful down the road if you decide to plunk it down into a warship.

Nick is right. The $50 6-channel is a great radio, fully programmable (without a computer unlike the cheaper 6-ch radio). Very handy. I own one and will likely own more in the future...

How do you plan to use a lathe to cut out ribs?

using a vice to hold each rib wile the drill slowly cuts away the wood at about 1500 rpms and i will have to manually do it.

A coping saw or scroll saw would probably be significantly faster and easier then using a lathe.

I feel like using the lathe would be an unnecessary pain in the rear end. just my thoughts

Not to mention that's a lot of sawdust you're going to making and a good chance that your ribs could snap halfway through the process which can be very frustrating. :crying:
