I have a problem. Never having put life boats or launches on any ship model until now, I don't know what color they need to be. Anyone have an idea?
The FN Gascogne is getting a full compliment of 7 lifeboats and 2 launches. The mounts are in place and they look pretty good on the ship. But, they haven't been painted yet because I don't know what color is correct. heh.
By the way, if you need lifeboats or launches, you cannot go wrong with the BC ones. They are very lightweight and look great. They even come with scale type mountings.
PS: The only reason the Gascogne is getting lifeboats is to pick up Axis sailors after their ship has sunk.
PPS: That goes for any Allies that want to try to pick on the big French BB too!

I was wondering about the colors as well.
Most of the photos that I have are during wartime, and pretty much everything is grey. But I have to admit that painting the lifeboats with some red, black, and white makes them really look great.
So although I am not sure what colors they were painted in the day. I am considering going with red bottoms, black hulls, and some white upperworks.

The pictures I have seen have the boats being white with a dark colored rim around the gunwales. This is pre-WW1 though so the paint scheme probably changed.

The camoflage and colors section on the Richelieu shows a variety of colors on the ship itself but the lifeboats stay a mid gray before, during and after the war. Still, you could do a mid gray with dark gunnels and red iron oxide below the waterline... :)
