does anybody know where I could get some light weight reegs from? Battlers Connection has been out of stock for quite a while now and I will be needing several soon for the three class 3 that are going to be built this winter.
Hey Chris, I think your only option for light weight regs would be to order some from Palmers in Cali. http://www.palmer-pursuit.com/a1/ Rock the boat Reg is the most common for small boats, but I'm sure theres a few that would work.
Hi Chris, I just MIGHT have found a source for lightweight (aluminum, 3.68oz) 150psi high pressure regulators designed to directly fit onto CO2 carts. I think I just found the original manufacturer that makes them and they look identical to the ones listed on the Palmers website, only hopefully cheaper direct from the source. And if they only deal wholesale to retail stores I can have our store place the order for us and handle the importing. Available Options: Use with 12g and 16g non-threaded cartridges. 12g cup for 12g non-threaded cartridges. (aka 12gm quick change) Body Threaded 1”-12 UNF to accept custom cartridge holders. 1-12 UNF Adapter for 3/8-24, 1/2-20 and 5/8-18, 16x1.5mm threaded cartridges and CGA-320 for refillable tanks. The CGA-320 is the standard paintball tank adapter so it should fit smeggin everything we can imagine. I sent off an urgent email to the original manufacturer requesting pricing based on sliding quantity scale, and requesting their minimum quantity for the order. I tried to phone but due to the time difference they were already closed for the day. Now all we need is their reply with pricing info. At worse, I'll try phoning them again on Monday after they open. Wish us all luck, as I sense a bulk order for lightweight regulators coming up. Huzzah! Mack Oops, forgot to add that once I get pricing and availablity confirmed I'll post this under the FORSALE section like I did the 3.5oz tanks so everyone can find it.
Here you go this is an awesome set up http://www.rcnavalcombat.com/rcnavalcombat/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1518
Wouldn't that be "WIlliams Balloons", in the CO2 section? Yeah, found those ones, look good for a standard regulator, but again, no mention of weight. Could you weigh yours and let us know how it compares to a Battler's standard reguator?
Another update regarding the aluminum regulators, you can also order them made of composite material (same duty life) and it drops the weight down to a mere 1.03oz from 3.68 (already low) With the 12gm fitting this will make an insanely light co2 system for destroyers.
Okay, spent the last 15 minutes chatting with the receptionist, Marcia, at the manufacturing company about r/c boats and what we do. She thought it was great. Unfortunately, Eric, the guy in charge of sales/etc for thier regulators is on vacation and won't get back until tomorrow. She's going to pass him my info and email tomorrow and we should hear back regarding pricing and minimum quanties(if any) by Tue/Wed. The receptionist did confirm they also do general, low volume consumer sales so I don't think we'll have any problem getting whatever small quantity of regulators we'll need. If the price is decent I'll be ordering 3-4 for myself, 1/ship and 2 spares for future builds. Stay tuned for more info. We can do a bulk order for X# of each type of regulator adapter people want. I assume most will want the standard paintball tank style adapter but I'm sure we'll want some of the ones for basic 12gm carts, and some of the multi-use ones for handling 8g/12g/16g/25g/38g threaded carts (all same adapter). The 45g carts need a seperate 5/7-18 thread adapter and the 88g ones require a 16x1.5mm neck adapter, or the one Wal-Mart carries to adapt 88g carts to regular paintball fitting. Again, more info to follow once Eric calls/emails me back with the details. Mack
Update! Erik, not Eric, emailed me back with rough pricing on the aluminum regulators and they work out to over $130/ea. He recommended their composite material regulator for our ships, due to it's even lighter weight and they should be less than $50/ea depending on tank or cart configuration requested. $50 for a super lightweight regulator rocks! I emailed him back regarding specific adpaters we'd require (mostly paintball tank adapters, some 25/38gm threaded, and some 12gm unthreaded) He's going to reply with a more exact quote for those combos and I'll let you know once I receive it. I plan on doing an initial small test order to see how well they perform for us first, then if we're happy, we can follow it up with a bulk club order for better pricing. The price reduction depending on quantity is based on 1 unit/10+ units/and 50+ units. More info to follow, but based on an assumed order for 10+ they should only cost about $40 USD each for the 1.03 oz regulator. Note- the standard Battler's regulator weighs 1.2 pounds (19 oz) Mack
Heh, no worries. I just retired 2 years ago after 25 years in the Airforce and most, if not all, modern aircraft and high strength/light weight components are made of composite materials. The composite listed for the regulators is stronger than steel. Mack
I would note, that if you are using a composite regulator, that you probably should pay a bit more attention to armoring it from BB's/ Bearings that you might do with the heavy brass regulators. Let me know what you find... I could use a lighter weight regulator for my karlsruhe. -Greg
Hhmm? Armoring the regulator? Thats not a bad idea at all. Should just require a simple hollow cylinder made of plastic canvas material, same stuff we use for our internal armor. Pop it on and off like a golf club cover. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know how the field trials of the regulators go once we confirm pricing and they arrive. - Mack
What are your sources for 28 or 35 gram co2 cartridges? What sort of threads? Another suggestion is the 16g cartridges for bicycles.
hey mackster, you want to share the name, phone number/website of the manufacture of these wonderous regulators?
Update on those regs, I called the supplierand for prices and the reg alone is $32.12, if you buy a compleat set-up for a 12 to 16gm it will run $50 as stated before if you buy more than 5 they're $32.12 and more than 10 they go down to $28 and so on. those interested in the adapter for the threaded tanks I would forget about it, the lady said they don't stock them so they're made to order and run $230 each. my question to anyone is how many shots can you get from a 16gm? (I'm looking at using it to power 6 BB sized piston-selector cannons)
