Fastgun is pretty much what is by you, so you're actually going to want something with guns, as very few fast-gun events make use of a convoy or carrier. So you're probably going to want to look at a heavy cruiser or such.

Really suggest getting up to someone's place for a build session, as they can be incredibly informative as a chance to get your hands on some of the ships in person.
There'll be a build session in Statesboro on Saturday the 9th of January if you can make it to our end of the state. First battle of the year around here will be sometime in February.
