can anyone help me out on making one of these as simple as possible building a sub for treaty.. I would like to split a 1unit spurt gun into multiple shots... this will be the only gun on the sub.. so I would kinda like to set it up to have 1 barrel .. 3 5 round shots someone had mentioned the possibility before.. but anyone have plans or drawing or something to do this?
Without a lot of complexity, the easy way is to limit how long you have the valve open. wouldn't be precisely 5 round bursts, but building a shot-counting interrupter is tricky, to say the least.
The interrupter in the standard cannon has space for one ball at a time. You simply need to give the balls more space on top of the interrupter. To have enough space you'd probably have to make your own breech rather than using the usual brass T. The Queens Own used this to make a hedgehog cannon that drove submarines out of business (land a shot within three feet and the sub was scored as sunk, the weapon was too effective)
hmmm an interesting idea. I think most people in the past (spurt guns arent overly popular atm) just did it manually (not holding the gun wide open), but I'm not sure. Perhaps some kind of cam?
instead of more area above the ball?... how about more area behind the ball? so that 5 balls fall into the 'breech' .. and then the balls are stopped by the 5th ball and they get bounced outta the way by the 5 balls being fired at once. then the next 5 fall into the breech and so on.. atleast that would be the ideal way for it to work.. and keep it fairly simple and easier to reload for the lil sub.
Reckless, if you really want to do precisely 5-round bursts, build yourself a regular single-shot cannon and give it a 15-round magazine. Then get yourself a solenoid for firing, and get yourself a PICAXE 08M servo controller. The Picaxe 08M is a cheap computer chip that can read signals from a hobby radio and perform other functions. What you'd do is program it to listen for a firing command, then fire off 5 shots from the single-shot cannon as quickly as possible. You'd need to play around with the exact timing, but I'd bet a computer chip can pull the trigger much faster than a human could, and the effect would for all practical purposes be a spurt gun.
I have made several cannons that would reliably fire 2, 3, 4, or 5 rounds at a time... unfortunately I never put much thought into why as I was going for single shot. If you get it set up right, you can even make a cannon controllably fire full auto. I.E. instead of spurting, the cannon "resonates" where the piston moves up, blocking new BB's. BB on top of the piston stops at O-ring, pressure rises to a point that the piston drops chambering a round. First round fires, second hits O-ring and stops, process repeats. The hard part about this is selection of piston length, piston weight, and spring stiffness to get the required function, be it multishot burst, single, or full auto. The other trick is that all three components are also dependent on the operating pressure and geometry of the cannon. It takes a lot of playing to get it working, but it can be done.
