The only post I've seen was forwarded to me from the member's list, and it said that Axis was cleaning up on Monday. Haven't heard jack since then, though. I will have to pester someone for info
Thanks Tug, I was wondering how the weather was for them. The Weather Channel (R) showed real bad weather with flooding east of them. Hope everything is ok.
They didn't mention the weather... all the flooding must be splashes from their gunfire spray water out of the lake.
Hey, a friend forwarded me the updates from MWC's members list. Here they are thru Wednesday, as related by Bob Hoerneman: Monday: Thought I'd let give you an update on the action today. I have no idea what the scores are, but the Axis are winning big. Fleet battle this moring was great. No wind great temps. Main action was to the left of the pond. First sink was Mike C. in St Paul. Bryan Bray's Des Moines went down and was "Lost" until the end of the battle. I found it, paying back Kevin for finding my LST last year. Lar's & Tiger also sank in sortie 1. Peter Ellison was the only Axis sink. In the 2nd sortie Tom Palmer sank and lost his glasses, Marc Morin found them, not an easy task. John Bruder (NC) sank. Andy T got caught in a campain port and sank. Some other people sank, I think, but I don't know who they were. I got shot up 49 belows but did not sink. In campain Finster's Nagato sank and took Bray's NC with it. Kevin K & Chuck S both lost Lutzows. Two Axis convoys were sunk. The allies lost a So Dak, NC, Fiji, Des Moines, Gloire, Richilu (Big Frog) and a couple others. We had Mikes Bearn sunk (he lost all 3 of his ships) and a frieghter. Both fleets used more then their 50 run points. A first that I have seen. Tuesday: More News! The Allies came back today and sank most of the Axis Fleet. We have closed the gap and are waiting to take over the lead! Oh wait... I guess I was at the wrong battle. The Axis sank a lot of Allied ships and now have a bigger lead. I sank twice with 55 & 57 belows each. Curly made it to the battle to take photos. He came to dinner with photos of the battles. They all had Axis ships shooting Allies, not sure how that happend. If you want to know more you'll have to come to NATS. Bob H Wednesday: Today we had 20 cruisers in the cruiser battle. We had 18 ships in a fleet battle this afternoon. Region 1 won the regional challenge trophy. No other region had the b---- to battles us. Night battle was terrible. Lars sunk, Mike Magnas sunk. Mike M ramed my Montcalm and almost sank it. The mosquitos were VERY BAD. Glad I had pants and a hooded sweatshirt on.
The Glorious Axis Navy is once again proving its superiority through having fun, outrageous chenanigans, and frivolity. Hail Flugel!
(Everybody sings...) And now it's Springtime for Hitler and Germany! U-Boats are sailing once more....
It was quite amazing seeing 50+ boats on the water at one time. I just got back from Nats. We all had a great time, super reverse was a non issue this year, the no offensive bump rules we used in campaign worked great. The final score was like Axis 140,000+ vs 89,000 for the Allieds. The Axis fleet was well balanced, like 8 heavys, 8 mid sized, and 8 cruisers. The Allieds, had alot of heavy ships, but few haymakers, only a few mid sized, with alot of cruisers. All week long the Allied cruisers stayed spred out all over the pond, while the Axis cruisers stayed in a pack of 8. Anytime anything came by us, you would see 5 or 6 cruisers on average shooting at a single target, we controlled the left side of the pond. We loved it when a NC or SD came into our area. The heavy Allied ships tried to pull our heavys out into the middle of the lake, but we avoided that, so they came into the shallows to try to hit us, and got shot to peices in the process. Bobs new NC survived with like 60 aboves, 4 or 5 on the waterline, and 53 belows one sortie, but thats alot of points still for the Axis side. What was even more amazing is that the Axis won the first convoy battle by a couple of thousand points, and we only lost the second one on Thursday by 800 points, due to a captaining error on Her Flugels part, he sailed into the wrong port, (Allied Port), and removed his ship from the water, so I was told it counted as a double sink. Oh well, by that time it was totally over with, and everyone had a good laugh about it. The most important thing was I think everyone had a great time, and everyone helped anyone who needed it, as it should be.
The Mighty Mogami's took plenty of hits, I received 40/2/7 in one sortie and stayed afloat with no problem. I think we will see more of my netting water channeling in the future, a couple of the captains told me they were going to redo their boats and put it in. Not once during Nats did I have to clean my pump, and was able to pump out with no problem, even playing with the NC's most of Nats. At one time cutting one off, she was almost totally underwater, except for the bow, and laying on its side being pushed over. But he stopped and she popped right back up, and went right on fighting. I do like the ability to single shoot the stern guns, I was able to fight every battle, and assist the BB's with running and blocking, shooting NC bows for the entire sortie, I only called 5 once all week. I was told by a few fellows of our BB's how much help I was in slowing down the NC's so our slower boats could get into the fight. And the Mu Gu completed all her missions without being escorted, she can turn almost as well as a LST. I will have to see if I can get a few more hulls made up for next year.
LOL... my 10 year old I-boat had netting in the channel when I bought it from the original owner... glad someone else saw the light I stops all kinds of stuff from infiltrating the pump.
Hey djranier, was there any serious attempt by the Allies at an organized strategy? From what you've written it sounds like the Axis were acting to a plan and sticking with it, and that's how they won. Did your Prinz Eugen see any action? And are there any photos of the battle? 50 boats on the water is mind-bogglingly incredible! I wish NABGO and other Big Gun events could do that. I think our record was a little over 20 ships.
Fleet strategy fails as soon as battle is called. The Allies had a plan, the Axis had a plan. The numbers were against the Allies at the start and the end result only confirmed the numbers at the beginning. The biggest problem I had was finding someone to donate steel to.
About the only Stategy I noticed was the Axis cruisers staying together. There was just too many boats on the water to keep up with what was going on. I did not take the PE, only the Kumano, since we shipped everything up two week prior. And the Axis slow boats pretty much looked like they stayed together, the Allied ships seem to me to be spred all over the place, and did not really work together. As Yamatoman said we had numbers on them, I never counted so I'm not sure what the numbers were. Some people were taking pictures, they should appear on the MWC site before long I would think.
