I am still trying to work out if I want to sink a lot of cash into the hobby. I am thinking fast gun or tready as Big gun does not appeal to me.

I am looking at getting a Heavy Cruiser or smaller Battle ship. I have narrowed it down a bit to these two.

SMS Moltke-- This one Has 3 guns so pretty good fire power, and I like the wide/shorter hulls of the WWI ships they just look cooler to me. Guessing that with the shorter 50.9" hull it should turn well also.

USS Couth Carolina-- Has 3 guns so good fire power, Shorter then the above ship, And I like the look.

ANyone give me some tips on these two?

    Thanks

If I were in your position, for fast gun, unless you have an attachment to the South Carolina, the moltke is both faster and has the advantage of extra rudder area due to the two in line rudders... The extra size will make it MUCH easier to build over the South Carolina.

Moltke is better if you are a min/max'er. Go with the one you like better.

I have a soft spot for the South Carolina. Tim Krakowski let me borrow his for a couple sorties when I showed up to watch a battle. They also look great with those twin cage masts. :)

I seen both so it depends on your preference. My choice would be the Moltke. Just the extra volume will help with the setup.

I have found the rules on weight limits and unit and the Moltke is 17 Lbs where the South carolina 10 lbs. I think the extra weight will come in handy

That seems a bit light for the SC. My Duke of Edinburgh is 10.5 lbs.

I built the Espana in '98 when small ships like the South Carolina were popular. It was difficult to get three guns, a 3.5 oz. CO2 bottle and the rest of the gear into such a small hull. The model turned well, even with a single rudder, and did well in competition but it was far too slow for my taste.
I replaced it with a Canarias Class heavy cruiser (Spanish) using one of my own hulls (now sold by Strike) and had much more fun with the faster ship. I recommend the Moltke because of its higher speed and greater reserve buoyancy.
